Full Job Description
About the role

Referrals are one of the most powerful ways people find their way to better care - a trusted recommendation from someone who's already felt the difference Hinge Health made in their life. We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the team building that experience: the incentive mechanics, referral flows, and personalization that turn existing members into the reason new members join. Member-to-member referrals have grown 2x in the past year and are on track to drive $100M in ARR this year, the team is overhauling the tech stack and investing heavily in ML to take it further.

This role centers on scaling member-to-member referral growth: improving the incentive mechanics, referral flows, and personalization that motivate existing members to bring in more members. This is a backend-heavy, full-stack role (~70% backend / 30% frontend) with a direct line to business outcomes like referral conversion and cost-per-acquisition - on a small, high-leverage team where your work isn't buried in a large team's backlog.

We enjoy a continuous deployment DevOps culture, and take owner-operator pride in supporting our code in production. Our production systems rely on React Native, React, Node.js, TypeScript, NestJS, GraphQL, Docker, Rails, AWS, Postgres, Redis, Apollo, and Redux. Our workflow is trunk-based CI/CD, and our security/compliance posture is at the highest standards of healthcare, including HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC 2, and CCPA.

What You'll Accomplish
  • Deliver large projects that introduce new product capabilities, often acting as a maintainer for key code repositories.
  • Modernize existing pipelines to scale our proven products with company growth.
  • Break down complex problems into manageable tasks, ensuring steady and predictable delivery while identifying and resolving root causes of incidents.
  • Collaborate with your team to roadmap and execute ambitious technical strategies, balancing short-term and long-term trade-offs.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers, providing thoughtful code reviews and real-time pairing.
  • Integrate and leverage AI technologies to automate processes and enhance product features, contributing to Hinge Health's AI-driven care platform.
  • Proactively improve the maintainability, availability, and performance of the team's features, and contribute to the team's overall architecture and developer tooling.
  • Communicate technical ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical partners, and document solutions for future reference.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical field
  • 3+ years of non-internship full time professional software development experience
  • Experience delivering large software projects or features in a production environment
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript, etc.)
  • Backend-heavy, full-stack ownership - strong ownership of backend APIs and services (~70% of the role), plus the ability to work confidently in the frontend surfaces (React / React Native) members interact with in referral flows (~30% of the role).
  • Ability to own projects end-to-end, make sound technical tradeoffs, and execute with minimal direction. You don't need to set org-wide technical direction, but you should be someone the team trusts to get the hard, ambiguous parts of a project right.
  • Experience using AI coding tools (e.g., Claude, Claude Code) and agentic AI workflows as part of your daily development process; able to use them to move faster without compromising code quality.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Incentive & growth experience - prior experience on a growth team, designing or contributing to systems that drive measurable user behavior through incentives, rewards, or social mechanics, and working on user journeys, experiences, or acquisition channels.
  • Personalization at scale - experience integrating ML model outputs into acquisition surfaces: A/B testing infrastructure or model serving.
  • Experimentation - experience running A/B tests or experiments in close collaboration with data science.
  • Experience with experimentation platforms or ML feature stores
  • Familiarity with health or regulated-data environments
