Expedition Technology (EXP), is seeking motivated engineers to join our Umbra team whose mission is to develop, deploy, and maintain the Training Data Storefront (TDS). TDS is a central repository of AI/ML annotations and models that serves the entire Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Community (IC). It plays a fundamental role in addressing today's critical defense and intelligence problems.

On the Umbra team, you will experience the full lifecycle of modern software development; from Agile scrum meetings, designing new TDS features, developing new capabilities using the latest open-source frameworks, to directly working with end-users to ensure TDS is solving their mission needs. At EXP, your work will make an impact to the community from day one.

As a member of the Umbra team working on TDS you will:
  • Collaborate on design and implementation of UI/UX strategy
  • Design UI architecture, interface, and interaction flow of new web applications
  • Break down complex requirements and concepts into visual designs and workflows
  • Mentor other engineers to improve the ability of the engineering teams to self-diagnose UI/UX issues and identify opportunities for improving human-machine interfaces
  • Build and maintain a framework of modular web components that can be used in multiple products
  • Create and evaluate interaction models, user task flows, screen designs, and UI details that promote ease of use and optimize the user experience

The qualifications you'll need to succeed are:
  • Bachelor's/Master's degree or equivalent experience in computer science, software engineering, UI/UX development, or a related field
  • United States Citizenship - all applicants must be eligible for a US Government-issued security clearance of Top Secret or higher. US Citizenship is required for this clearance.
  • An active TS/SCI security clearance (at the moment, we can only hired cleared engineers)
  • Experience with some front-end technologies and frameworks, such as HTML, CSS, React/Angular or other major UI platforms - ex: Vue (You don't need to know all technologies listed, just some of them.)
  • Experience with Javascript and Python
  • Experience with REST APIs, experience with UI/UX design and integration with data-intensive backend systems
  • Experience with Cloud applications - AWS preferred
  • 5 years+ professional experience in a similar role
  • Ability to work collaboratively with developers, engineers, and other teams to ensure that designs are successfully created and implemented to achieve the user goals
  • Experience creating UI specs and wireframes; flexibility and willingness to move from idea, to whiteboard, to execution quickly and provide choices to stakeholders
  • An understanding and working knowledge of source control repositories (Git preferred)
  • A passion for new languages, technologies, and development practices

Clearance Required: TS/SCI
