Full Job Description
Overview

Do you thrive on optimizing and maintaining foundational services that power the cloud? Microsoft is seeking a Senior Software Engineer in the Azure Edge + Platform Silver Infrastructure Operations and Insights Team. The Operations and Insights team develops mission-critical platforms, tools, and big data solutions that empower Microsoft technicians and engineers to operate and protect Microsoft's cutting-edge cloud datacenters and high-security facilities.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll have the opportunity to build the most secure and trusted cloud that the US Government relies on for innovation. This role offers the chance to leverage your software and data engineering experience while delving into cloud infrastructure, big data, and cloud-scale automation. Plus, enjoy the flexibility of partially working from home while contributing to strategic projects.

Responsibilities

  • Translate user and stakeholder requirements into robust designs, clarifying acceptance criteria and aligning solutions with team architecture and security/compliance standards.
  • Own complex components end-to-end: produce maintainable, performant, and reusable code; write unit/integration tests; and uphold engineering excellence through thorough reviews.
  • Decompose large initiatives into well-scoped work items with estimates, identify cross-team dependencies and risks, and drive execution to hit schedule and quality bars.
  • Serve as senior Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) for services/features: lead incident response, perform root-cause analysis, create/automate playbooks, and drive measurable incident and toil reduction.
  • Improve service reliability and operational maturity through enhanced telemetry, observability integration, automated rollback/remediation workflows, and proactive performance tuning.
  • Design and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) assets-such as resource templates, declarative configurations, and automated deployment pipelines-to ensure consistent, repeatable, and secure provisioning across clouds.
  • Model continuous learning and knowledge sharing: evaluate emerging technologies, document patterns and runbooks, and mentor peers to uplift code quality and operational practices.
  • Embody our culture and values.
