Marqeta is seeking a skilled
Senior Software Engineer to contribute to the design and delivery of software solutions on our
Credit Commercial Engineering Team. In this role, you will take ownership of well-defined features and components within a broader product area, delivering on team goals across quarterly milestones. You will apply your technical expertise to solve moderately complex problems, exercising sound judgment to work through challenges with growing independence. You will collaborate actively with your teammates and cross-functional partners to ensure alignment and drive reliable, high-quality outcomes.

The Impact You'll Have- Design and implement high-performance solutions for large-scale, high-volume, and high-velocity financial data and complex compliance landscapes.
- Develop the software and infrastructure to achieve repeatable and efficient high-quality releases with automation, seeking opportunities to replace redundant tasks and enhance engineering focus on strategic challenges.
- Debug critical production issues across services and different stack levels.
- Actively keep customer needs in mind and leverage input from product stakeholders to determine the right technical solutions to deliver customer value quickly.
- Apply a detail-oriented mindset to analyze data, detect patterns, and create well-organized documentation for non-technical audiences.
- Diagnose and resolve production issues across various services and system layers.
- Lead design for medium components/features and participate in design for larger components/features (moving from task level impact to medium-size project level impact).
- Meticulously evaluate data, identify patterns, and communicate complex information clearly to non-technical stakeholders
Who You Are- You have 5+ years of industry experience in software development in Java, service-oriented architectures, and cloud computing (AWS preferred).
- Experience with Java, Spring Boot
- Experience with a front-end framework like React or Next.js and knowledge of CSS/HTML
- Experience with Kubernetes and/or Docker
- Knowledge of common design patterns in scalable distributed systems as well as core computer science concepts
- Experience with OAuth 2.0, JWTs, and user session management
- Experience, designing, building and maintaining web and mobile applications.
- Ability to develop and deliver clean, readable and error-free code with thorough documentation and testing.
- Ability to understand existing designs and technology choices and make appropriate adjustments when necessary.
- Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and respectful manner both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to share relevant information including if difficult task-level trade-offs that impact the product need to be made.
- The ability to demonstrate humility, empathy, and to take constructive feedback positively.
- Strong collaboration and communication (verbal and written) skills. Can effectively work cross-functionally and deliver a project.
- A desire to grow in your career, learn, share ideas and help others grow and learn.
- The capacity to work productively on cross-functional teams and take a collaborative, team oriented approach
Nice to haves- Experience with payments or the FinTech space
- Experience with big data analytics tools (i.e. - Snowflake) and stream processing architectures
- Contributions to technical blogs, a public Github repo, or to open source projects.

Compensation and BenefitsMarqeta calibrates pay to a competitive value according to working location. When determining salaries, we consider several factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior experience, and work location. The new-hire
base salary range for this full-time position, reflected in CAD, is: 116,000 - 145,000
