Full Job Description
ABOUT THE ROLE

Software Engineers at Bright Machines are responsible for defining and implementing the systems that make Software Defined Manufacturing possible and that power our flexible robotic manufacturing lines. Our robots, and the software that controls them, are deployed in a variety of factory conditions and help support the manufacturing operations for some of the biggest names in the industry.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will build scalable systems that help our users program, deploy, and operate our automation equipment. You will work with other Engineers in the Bright Machines San Francisco office to define, architect, implement, and deploy our software stack - from robot to cloud. If you're ready to apply exceptional engineering practices and build the software that will define the next generation in manufacturing, this is your opportunity to "Be Bright".

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Design and build the core of our robot orchestration framework - the execution engine, the APIs, and frameworks your users will write workflows against
  • Partner closely with the systems engineers who use our framework to understand pain points and shape what we build next
  • Make the system more reliable, observable, and debuggable, both for us and for the engineers building on it
  • Review code, raise the engineering bar, and help shape technical direction on a small team

WHAT WE WANT TO SEE

  • 5+ years building production software in Python, with real depth - you've built frameworks other engineers depend on, not just written application code
  • Experience with workflow engines or orchestration systems
  • Solid distributed systems foundations: state, consistency, failure handling, queueing, retries, idempotency
  • Comfort operating production systems - debugging across process and network boundaries, reasoning about failure modes
  • You think like a platform engineer: you care about the developer experience of the people using your code, and you design with that in mind

IT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU HAD

  • Experience with robotics, controls, manufacturing systems, or other domains where software meets physical hardware
  • Background in PLCs, real-time systems, or device-level software
  • Experience supporting production deployments in industrial or field environments

$170,000 - $220,000 a year
