Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Software Development Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about building high-quality, scalable, and resilient software solutions, embracing modern development practices, and leveraging innovative technologies like Artificial Intelligence to drive efficiency and excellence. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge projects and collaborate with a talented group of engineers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Partner with multiple management teams to ensure appropriate integration of functions to meet goals, as well as identify and define necessary system enhancements to deploy new products and process improvements.
  • Resolve a variety of high-impact problems and projects through in-depth evaluation of complex business processes, system processes, and industry standards.
  • Provide expertise and advanced knowledge of applications programming, ensuring application design adheres to the overall architecture blueprint.
  • Utilize advanced knowledge of system flow to develop and enforce standards for coding, testing, debugging, and implementation - including modern practices such as TDD, BDD, and AI-assisted development.
  • Develop comprehensive knowledge of how areas of business, such as architecture and infrastructure, integrate to accomplish business goals.
  • Provide in-depth analysis with interpretive thinking to define issues and develop innovative solutions.
  • Champion automation and forward-thinking engineering practices, providing strategic direction and actionable suggestions for productivity improvements across the development lifecycle.
  • Serve as advisor and coach to mid-level developers and analysts, allocating work and fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Experience: 6+ years of relevant experience in applications development or systems analysis, with significant time in architectural roles.
  • Technical Stack: Architect-level, hands-on experience designing and implementing scalable, production-grade solutions using Kotlin, Java, Python, Docker, MongoDB, ElasticSearch, AMQP, Kubernetes, and OpenShift, with a strong command of Reactive Programming principles.
  • Modern Development Practices: Proven experience applying TDD, BDD, CI/CD pipelines, and AI-assisted development tools to improve code quality, test coverage, and delivery velocity.
  • AI & Automation: Forward-thinking approach to leveraging AI/ML and automation to drive productivity improvements, intelligent system capabilities, and operational efficiency.
  • Financial Domain: Proven experience in the financial services domain with a specific focus on Settlements, including ATM transaction processing, reconciliation, and clearing workflows.
  • Troubleshooting: Demonstrated ability to rapidly investigate and resolve complex architectural defects, delivering robust and sustainable implementation solutions under pressure.
  • MOT Applications: Functional and technical expertise in MOT applications.
  • SME: Recognised Subject Matter Expert (SME) in at least one critical area of applications development.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated leadership and project management skills, with the ability to adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate.
  • Communication: Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication, able to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.


Education
  • Bachelor's degree/University degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline. A Master's degree is advantageous.
