Responsibilities

  • Create new software products and modify existing applications to meet evolving needs.
  • Provide ongoing support for current software based on user feedback and requirements.
  • Manage change control processes by tracking modifications, conducting reviews and validations.
  • Implement and test configuration changes in software; apply them to production environments.
  • Collaborate with team leads to ensure smooth software deployments and project management.
  • Perform other assigned duties as required to support project objectives.

What will you be doing!
  • Assuming the team lead duties in the absence of the CTA-CSE Team-Leader, including directing the day-to-day activities of three to six team members, as well as reporting any requested information to the Branch Manager.
  • Developing new software products and significant changes to existing software products.
  • Supporting existing software in response to customer requirements.
  • Applying thorough change oversight, review, and validation services, tracking all changes, reviews and testing.
  • Implementing and testing configuration changes, then applying them to production servers.
  • Working closely with the team lead to deliver software rollouts, provide development guidance, and plan work and progression, including balancing the needs of current clients with the production of enhancements and the servicing of new clients.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:
  • Education
    • At minimum, a Bachelor (Honours) degree in Engineering or Science from a university of recognized standing; or membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization.
  • Experience
    • A minimum of 7-8 years of relevant experience is required, including:
      • Extensive experience in developing distributed applications utilizing MS SQL and web programming technologies (essential).
      • Extensive experience in Mobile Computer/Scanner software application development.
      • Extensive experience in Mobile Computer/Scanner system interface interactions.
      • Extensive experience in Web-based Technologies (HTTP, HTML, CSS, VB.NET, BOOTSTRAP, JAVA).
      • Extensive experience in C# (or C, C++) Development.
      • Extensive experience in VB.NET Development.
      • Experience working with Microsoft Excel (VBA), Word, etc.
      • Experience with multi-platform development.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Ability to design, document, and implement solid, well-designed software systems, end-to-end.
    • Ability to plan computer system deployment and operational support activities (software/hardware upgrades, etc.).
    • Ability to lead a cohesive team of developers (in the absence of the team lead).
    • Well-versed in database access from applications and front-end web interfaces.
    • Ability to mentor junior team members.
    • Ability to switch between tasks and handle multiple requests on a per-day basis.
    • Knowledge of CNL's policies and procedures is an asset.
    • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to interface with a variety of internal and external staff.
    • Able to prioritize activities based on operational demands and resource availability.
    • Ability to lead by example in performing the duties of all members.
    • Ability to mentors junior staff members when requested.
    • Web-based technology knowledge.
    • Mobile computer/phone industry knowledge.
    • Knowledge of multi-platform computing and toolsets.
    • Knowledge of typical facility usage of electronic surveillance systems.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security."

Working Conditions:
  • Working schedule: Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty-seven and a half (37.5) hour work week.
  • This position is part of the CRPEG Union and is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in the CRPEG Collective Agreement. As a member of this bargaining unit, you'll benefit from clear expectations around hours of work, wages, vacation, and other conditions that support a fair and consistent working environment.
