Translational Development at BMS

Translational Development is part of the Global Research organization in BMS and leads late-stage clinical, pharmacological and translational research and development activities for the pipeline and supports late-stage portfolio for regulatory, translational development and life cycle management. Translational Development drives strategy across core therapeutic areas at BMS including hematology, oncology, immunology, cardiovascular and neuroscience. This group integrates laboratory science, clinical trial/biomarkers and asset development as well as disease research to maximize the potential of BMS current and future therapeutics.

Position Summary:

Reporting to Director/Translational Development, the new role will be part of the translational group based in Cambridge, MA and will manage the scientific and preclinical laboratory component of multiple immune-oncology interfacing late-stage programs (phase 2 and beyond). Key responsibilities of this role are to lead from the bench supporting programs through mechanism of action-based studies, differentiation from standard of care molecules, combination rationale and resistance mechanisms.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Performs preclinical/laboratory studies involving late-stage BMS assets to support annual goals and objectives for the Translational Medicine research group
  • Responsible for delivering data in support of translational strategies including biomarkers, patient selection hypotheses, dose and schedule, combination strategies, resistance mechanisms and differentiation
  • Interfaces with other research scientists within and outside of Translational Medicine to ensure seamless flow of information
  • May contribute to external preclinical collaborations across the clinical asset pipeline
  • Accurately maintain written reports and present results in an organized and timely manner
  • Communicate effectively, foster teamwork and contribute to project strategy discussions


Qualifications & Experience:
  • PhD with at least 2 years of relevant work experience in an academic or industry setting focusing on immune-oncology, hematology and/or immunology
  • Excellent publication record in high tier scientific journals and strong research track record in academic or industry setting, leading innovative efforts within the laboratory to achieve defined goals and support clinical development


Technical Skills:
  • In vitro: Multi-parameter flow cytometry and cell sorting in the context of primary immune cell characterization, cellular based immune effector assays (ADCC, ADCP, T-cell killing), cytokine analysis (ELISA/MSD), bulk/sc-RNA-seq.
  • In vivo: end-to-end syngeneic and CDX-based efficacy studies (i.v./p.o.), tumor immunophenotyping and transcriptomic profiling
  • Experience with spatial technology platforms (e.g. Akoya, Visium, COSMX or similar) a plus.
  • Ability to work with disease teams/experts to develop preclinical strategies to support clinical development and life cycle management
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with experience in developing written documents such as primary manuscripts/publications are essential
  • Strong commitment to quality, integrity, accountability and demonstrated adaptability
  • Excellent communication, managerial and scientific qualities are expected
  • High competency in scientific analysis, innovative solutions and the ability to strategically prioritize goals.

Compensation Overview:

Cambridge Crossing: $142,220 - $172,340

The starting pay range(s) listed above is for full-time employees (FTE). You may also be eligible for additional discretionary incentive cash and stock opportunities. We determine starting pay thoughtfully - carefully considering the nature of the role, required skills, work location, schedule and the knowledge and experience you bring. Final compensation is guided by pay equity principles and applicable employment laws. Compensation programs are reviewed on an ongoing basis and may be adjusted over time to reflect evolving market factors, and individual, team or Company performance.

Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plans then in effect, you may be eligible to participate in our comprehensive benefit plans - including wellbeing support, retirement and financial protection benefits, and insurance offerings (medical, dental, vision, life and disability).

U.S.-based exempt employees are eligible for Flexible Time Off (FTO), which provides paid time off without a set accrual limit, subject to manager approval, along with 11 paid company holidays each year.

Non-exempt employees, RayzeBio employees, and employees located in Puerto Rico receive 160 hours of paid vacation annually for new hires (subject to manager approval), 11 paid company holidays, and 3 optional holidays.

Depending on eligibility, employees may also have access to additional time-off benefits, including paid sick leave, up to two paid volunteer days per year, summer hours flexibility, and leaves of absence for medical, personal, parental, caregiver, bereavement, or military needs. Eligible employees also enjoy an annual Global Shutdown between Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
