Senior Safety Manager to lead site safety operations and guide safety personnel for a major project in the Northeast. This position plays a critical role in establishing and maintaining a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and project-specific safety requirements. The Safety Manager will report directly to the Division Safety Manager and collaborate closely with site teams.
Responsibilities:- Continuously monitors the Health & Safety (H&S) program against trends, new industry practices, legislative changes, business changes, and exposure changes to ensure that the program stays current and continues to evolve.
- Lead all safety efforts on-site and promote a culture of safety across the project team.
- Responsible for developing, conducting, and tracking all relevant safety training on the job site.
- Serve as the Lead Safety Manager for the tunneling project. Ensure scheduling and coordination of safety activities across all contractors, subcontractors, and tunneling operations.
- Perform atmospheric gas and ventilation testing to ensure safe working conditions. Documentation and organized filing/storage to champion.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, and recommend corrective actions on the job site.
- Ensure compliance with owner-specific safety requirements and company standards.
- Maintain thorough and up-to-date safety documentation and reports.
- Support and execute the company's corporate safety program in coordination with the HQ Safety Manager.
- Stay current with OSHA regulations and industry best practices. This project is under an OSHA partnership program; collaboration is crucial.
- Be established within Procore.
Qualifications:- A minimum of 15 years of safety experience in construction, tunnel, or heavy civil experience is required.
- Demonstrated safety leadership on EPB (Earth Pressure Balance) and slurry Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) tunneling projects.
- At least 5 years of experience in a supervisory or safety leadership role.
- CHST or another higher valid accreditation.
- Valid OSHA certification (e.g., OSHA 30, OSHA 500, or equivalent) is required.
- Strong knowledge of tunneling construction hazards and mitigation strategies with top-side and underground operations.
- Trained and experienced in atmospheric gas monitoring and ventilation system safety.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and documentation skills.
- Proven ability to enforce safety policies and lead by example in the field.
- Proficient in Procore.
Preferred Qualifications:- Previous experience in large-scale public infrastructure or underground utility projects.
- Familiarity with owner safety requirements in the Pacific Northwest.
Other: - Work on-site Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional Saturday & Sunday work as needed.
- Requires understanding and navigation of VPP/SPS (OSHA Partnership).
