Role description:This position is intended for an experienced field leader who can manage complex transit station construction, rehabilitation, and modernization work in active operating environments. The ideal candidate brings strong resident engineering experience, sound construction judgment, and the ability to coordinate clients, contractors, designers, operations staff, and stakeholders to support safe, efficient, and contract-compliant delivery.
As a Senior Resident Engineer, you will play a key role in managing transportation infrastructure projects, with a primary focus on transit station construction, rehabilitation, and modernization. This role includes oversight of station buildings, platforms, vertical circulation, architectural finishes, utility coordination, site access, and work performed in active transit environments.
Role accountabilities:- Overseeing and coordinating field activities among the client, contractor, designers, third-party stakeholders, and operations staff to support safe and efficient project delivery.
- Reviewing and managing project documents, including RFIs, submittals, meeting records, daily reports, and field documentation, to confirm compliance with contract requirements and client expectations.
- Supporting change management by evaluating field conditions, coordinating input from the project team, leading contractor discussions, and assisting with preparation of change documentation.
- Working closely with project management staff to monitor scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and construction phasing in active transit station environments.
- Preparing clear reporting on construction progress, issues, risks, field decisions, cost impacts, and upcoming work to support timely project decisions.
- Maintaining accurate project records and supporting consistent documentation, communication, and contract administration practices.
- Serving as a primary field point of contact for the client and contractor while maintaining strong working relationships and timely issue resolution.
Qualifications & Experience:- 12 years of construction management or resident engineering experience on transportation infrastructure projects, with transit station experience strongly preferred.
- Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Professional certification required: PE, CCM, PMP, or other relevant construction or project management certification.
- Experience working in active transit station, aviation, municipal, or other complex public infrastructure environments preferred.
- Preferred experience supporting CTA, Metra, or similar transit agency clients, with field oversight experience on station projects performed in active passenger and operating environments.
- Experience coordinating construction phasing, public access, safety, and operational constraints in active passenger environments.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating contractors, designers, agencies, operations staff, and stakeholders in constrained construction environments.

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
