Job Description :

We are seeking an experienced Sr. Reporter (Sun-Thurs, 10am-6pm) to join our New York newsroom. This is a high impact reporting position focused on breaking down complex stories, digging beneath official narratives, and delivering sharp, fast, unmistakably Post style journalism that drives the conversation in New York and beyond.

The ideal candidate is a relentless reporter with strong sourcing instincts, comfortable building and maintaining a wide network of contacts across city government, law enforcement, courts, politics, business and community organizations. You should know how to cultivate confidential sources, handle sensitive information responsibly, and develop reporting that goes beyond press releases and official statements. You know how to get people talking, and how to verify what they say.

You will be expected to move quickly without sacrificing accuracy, turning around high quality investigative pieces on tight timelines when breaking news demands it. You should be equally comfortable chasing long term investigative projects and jumping into fast breaking developments, always finding the sharpest angle and the most compelling way to tell the story.

This role requires a writer who can deliver the Post voice with confidence and precision. That means clear, punchy storytelling with attitude, authority and momentum, while still maintaining rigor in sourcing and fact gathering. You will work closely with editors to shape headlines, sharpen leads and ensure stories are delivered quickly and cleanly across platforms.

Responsibilities:

● Report on the biggest stories of the day – across New York City and beyond
● Work hand in hand with our beat reporters to synthesize notes and craft them into well-written stories
● Build and maintain a deep network of sources across government, law enforcement, courts, politics and other key beats
● Break exclusives and pick out angles that others miss or cannot access
● Move quickly on breaking news while maintaining strong investigative rigor
● Work closely with editors to shape sharp angles, strong headlines and fast turnaround coverage
● Identify important leads from press conferences, documents, tips and source reporting that may be overlooked by others
● Write with clarity, speed and the distinctive New York Post voice that is authoritative, direct and engaging

Requirements:

● 7 to 10 years of experience in a fast-paced newsroom working on daily or near daily deadlines
● Proven track record of investigative or enterprise reporting with strong clips
demonstrating depth and impact
● Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain sources across multiple sectors
● Strong news judgment and the ability to identify high value stories quickly
● Exceptional writing skills with the ability to deliver fast, clean and compelling copy under pressure
● Comfort working in a highly collaborative, deadline-driven environment
● Deep familiarity with New York City news, politics and institutional power structures preferred
● A passion for accountability reporting and storytelling that drives real world impact

Note: This is an on-site position based in our New York City newsroom.

Base Pay Range: $95,000 - $110,000

We’re committed to offering competitive and flexible compensation to attract top talent. This pay range reflects our good faith estimate for the role and may vary based on a candidate’s experience, skills, location, and other relevant factors.
