Job Description:

Job Title: Senior Quality Engineer

Reports to: Manager, Quality

Department: Engineering

Work Model: Full-time, On-site – 20% Travel Required

Schedule: Monday – Friday 8am-5pm

Job Summary

This position will perform key quality management system activities, including First Article Inspections (FAI), root cause analysis, Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), and supporting Material Review Board (MRB) and audit functions. The role includes conducting internal audits, reviewing contracts for quality requirements, and identifying process improvement opportunities. Additionally, the engineer will promote awareness of quality standards, prepare reports, and participate in benchmarking to implement best practices.

Essential Functions

  • Complete the support activities for quality management system processes including execution of first article inspections (FAI), root cause and corrective actions, failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), Material Review Board (MRB), audit support activities, source inspection support activities, etc.
  • Support one or more aspects of the quality management system including internal audits, FAI, Corrective And Preventive Action (CAPA), Nonconforming Material Report (NCMR) / MRB, complaints, counterfeit parts prevention, supplier quality, customer source inspections, etc.
  • Complete contract reviews for quality requirements verifying the customer needs are covered by current Quality Management System (QMS) processes or providing feedback when changes are needed to either the QMS or the contract for acceptance.
  • Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance to quality standards and internal procedures.
  • Promote awareness of customer requirements and quality standards throughout the organization.
  • Determine quality improvement opportunities by monitoring process performance metrics, reported issues, and known failures.
  • Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data, making recommendations.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing personal networks.
  • Conduct benchmarking activities to collect and implement best practices.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of quality principles and processes
  • Familiarity with AS9100D, ISO9001:2008, AS9102, and SPC a plus
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office tools including Outlook, Word, Excel, and web applications
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Train and mentor others in core departmental duties
  • Effectively lead small (5-10 member) teams on well-defined projects with moderate supervision, oversight, and coaching provided
  • Identify departmental process deficiencies, propose viable solutions, and implement appropriate corrective action(s) with moderate managerial support provided

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a US Person (US Citizen, person granted US Permanent Resident Card or any individual who is granted status as a "protected person”)
  • Bachelor’s in engineering, business, science, or related field. Five years of quality control, quality analyst, or quality engineering experience in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5-10 years of quality experience within aerospace or related industry
  • Quality certifications (CQE, lean, six sigma, etc.) preferable

Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed in an office environment. Occasional exposure to manufacturing floor and testing environments. May require lifting up to 25 lbs, standing for extended periods during product testing.
