Job Summary:The candidate will be responsible for property tax compliance, audit defense, tax appeals, research and planning for U.S. business activities.
Principal Responsibilities:- Accurately prepare and timely file personal property tax returns for multiple companies and taxing jurisdictions.
- Organize and maintain files supporting and documenting all tax returns filed and payments remitted.
- Maintain property tax calendar.
- Continually streamline property tax compliance process by identifying and implementing strategies to increase efficiently and accuracy.
- Identify and optimize available exemptions and credits.
- Research and review assessments, file appeals and assist in negotiating settlements with tax authorities to minimize property tax liabilities.
- Analyze pending and enacted tax legislation to identify tax opportunities.
- Conceive, propose and implement tax reduction plans consistent with tax laws and regulations.
- Communicate with taxing authorities to resolve notices.
- Manage the preparation of the annual property tax budget.
- Reconcile property tax accrual accounts on a quarterly basis.
- Provide property tax analysis for proposed capital projects to business teams.
- Work with AR team to support customer inquiries related to property tax re-bills.
- Work with fixed asset accountants to maintain accurate and reliable data.
- Assist with management of tax credits and incentives including filing of initial applications with third party assistance, annual incentive compliance filings, and coordination of the achieved incentives/abatements with filing of annual renditions to ensure benefits are maximized.
- Assist Indirect Tax function as needed.
Required Skills: - Strong knowledge of property tax compliance, audits, appeals, and incentives.
- Experience preparing multi-state property tax filings and managing associated tax calendar
- Strong analytical, research and problem-solving skills
- Proficient with SAP, PTMS, Microsoft Excel and Access
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a deadline driven environment
Basic Qualifications:- Bachelors Degree in Accounting/Finance
- Minimum of 7 years Property Tax experience
The salary range for this position is $102,000 - $136,000. Messer provides medical, dental, vision, short term disability, life insurance and paid time off as well as other voluntary benefits, such as, long term disability in accordance with the terms and conditions of these Plans.
