Senior Project Manager with a background in heavy civil construction to join our team! This is an exciting opportunity to take on a leadership role within a high-performing project management team while helping guide the successful delivery of complex civil infrastructure projects throughout the Greater Phoenix Valley. Our jobsites are located locally, so no out-of-town travel is expected.
The Senior Project Manager provides management direction to multiple projects and project teams, including Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Project Interns. This role is responsible for establishing project objectives and policies, maintaining client relationships, overseeing construction and financial performance, and mentoring the next generation of project management professionals. The ideal candidate is a strategic leader with strong business acumen, exceptional communication skills, and a passion for developing people.
What You'll Do:- Manage multiple project teams from project startup through project closeout
- Develop new and maintain existing client relationships for long-term success
- Serve as the liaison between client representatives and project teams regarding project status, challenges, and progress
- Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of project contracts and specifications while ensuring project teams do the same
- Create, manage, and oversee project schedules while coordinating with internal teams, clients, subcontractors, vendors, and stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies and OSHA safety standards on all assigned projects
- Monitor project plans, specifications, quality standards, and operational efficiencies to ensure successful project execution
- Provide oversight and support to Project Managers, Project Engineers, Superintendents, and other field resources
- Train and mentor Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Interns through structured coaching and professional development
- Review and support critical project management deliverables including:
- Monthly budget reviews
- Job cost and labor productivity reports
- Quantity tracking and discrepancy resolution
- Budget variance analysis
- Change order request (COR) logs
- Monthly billing deliverables
- CPM schedules
- Coach and mentor staff to improve effectiveness, leadership skills, and overall project performance
- Help develop project teams by strengthening technical knowledge related to plans, specifications, contracts, cost models, and project controls
- Identify employee strengths and opportunities for development and provide guidance to help individuals reach their potential
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
What You Bring:- Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills
- Ability to successfully execute project delivery methods including Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR), and Job Order Contracts (JOC)
- Ability to read and interpret construction contracts and project documents
- Strong knowledge of CPM scheduling and Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Project
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and blueprints
- Understanding of 811/Bluestake processes and requirements
- Knowledge of crew configurations, productivity tracking, and labor production rates
- Understanding of MAG, MCDOT, ADOT, MCAQD, ADEQ, and Greater Phoenix Municipal Standards
- Experience using construction management and estimating software such as HCSS/HeavyJob, On-Screen Takeoff, Agtek, or similar platforms
- Knowledge of the Arizona heavy civil construction market preferred
- Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with clients, business partners, field teams, and executive leadership
- Ability to develop and mentor high-performing project teams
- Experience with Sage CRE 300, TimberScan, Microsoft Project, or similar software preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Education & Experience:- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college, technical school, or university in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered
- Minimum of 10 years of construction-related project management experience with a general contractor
- Proven experience managing multiple projects and leading project teams in the heavy civil construction industry
- Previous experience mentoring and developing project management personnel preferred
Work EnvironmentThis is a full-time, in-office role working closely with executive leadership, operations, and project teams. The position requires regular interaction with both office and field staff and occasional jobsite visits as needed.
