The Safety Manager is responsible for leading and continuously improving DCS Contracting's safety program while reinforcing a culture that helps our employees work safely and return home to their loved ones every day.
This role works closely with field leadership and senior management and requires strong communication, coordination, organization, integrity, and sound judgment.
Success in this role requires the ability to positively influence and hold others accountable while building strong working relationships with field leaders and project teams.
What Success Looks Like:
This is a highly visible, hands-on role with significant impact across the company. As DCS Contracting's Safety Manager, you will serve as the primary safety leader and partner to our field operations teams.
This is currently a department of one, which means you'll own all aspects of the safety program, from strategic planning and policy development to field support, training, compliance, and day-to-day execution.
One day you may be updating the company safety handbook, reviewing incident trends, and leading Safety Committee discussions. The next day you may be conducting jobsite inspections, helping a Superintendent or Project Engineer develop a Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), delivering training, organizing PPE inventory, or supporting project teams in the field.
If you enjoy variety, ownership, and the opportunity to build and continuously improve processes while working closely with operations, you'll thrive in this role.
What You'll Do:
- Lead the implementation, continuous improvement, and daily execution of DCS Contracting's company-wide safety program.
- Champion a proactive safety culture by building strong partnerships with field leaders, project teams, and employees across the organization.
- Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections, document observations, identify improvement opportunities, and ensure corrective actions are completed.
- Partner with project teams to ensure compliance with company safety standards, regulatory requirements, and project-specific safety plans.
- Review, coach, and improve Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) developed by DCS crews and subcontractors to strengthen hazard recognition and risk mitigation.
- Participate in project planning, coordination, and operations meetings to provide practical safety guidance that supports successful project execution.
- Lead the company's Safety Committee and drive initiatives focused on employee engagement, continuous improvement, and incident prevention.
- Investigate incidents, injuries, property damage events, and near misses; determine root causes and implement corrective actions to reduce future risk.
- Track safety performance metrics and trends, providing recommendations to leadership to strengthen overall safety performance.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs, including OSHA 10, excavation safety, competent person training, First Aid/CPR, and other required topics.
- Coach and mentor supervisors and crews on safe work practices, hazard recognition, and safety leadership.
- Develop and maintain site-specific safety plans, training materials, policies, and supporting documentation.
- Maintain employee training records, certifications, inspections, incidents, and regulatory compliance documentation.
- Manage company PPE inventory, distribution, and compliance programs.
- Serve as a trusted safety resource for employees, field leadership, customers, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of DCS's commitment to safety excellence.
