Full Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Public Affairs department advances NYCEDC's mission by communicating the organization's projects, programs, and initiatives to the public and key stakeholders. The Senior Project Manager, Community & Media Relations develops and executes media strategies that strengthen NYCEDC's engagement with community and broader media outlets. The position leads targeted outreach, supports broader media relations and crisis communications efforts, and works across NYCEDC and City government to communicate complex initiatives clearly and effectively across earned, owned and digital media channels. This role also builds external relationships that expand the reach of NYCEDC's communications and help protect the organization's reputation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Build and maintain relationships with community, traditional, new media and other relevant media outlets to support accurate and effective coverage of NYCEDC projects and initiatives.
  • Integrate community and emerging platforms and digital media engagement into major announcements, communications plans, and proactive media strategies to expand reach and advance organizational objectives.
  • Plan and lead targeted media outreach, including briefings, site tours, interviews, speaking opportunities, and the placement of culturally relevant content.
  • Develop press releases, executive remarks, media briefs, talking points, summaries, press pitches digital communications, executive communications and other presentation materials that translate complex information into clear and accessible messaging.
  • Partner with internal departments to develop coordinated communications strategies and maintain consistent messaging across projects and initiatives.
  • Coordinate with City Hall communications teams, City agencies, external partners, and other stakeholders on shared communications priorities.
  • Support press events, time-sensitive media responses, and crisis communications activities in collaboration with Public Affairs leadership and team members.
  • Monitor media coverage and engagement to assess the effectiveness of outreach strategies and identify opportunities to strengthen NYCEDC's communications and reputation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and professional experience.
  • At least five years of relevant experience in communications, public affairs, media relations, journalism, government communications, political campaigns, public relations, or a related field.
  • Experience leading complex communications initiatives involving multiple stakeholder groups and executing proactive media relations strategies.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Track record of building partnerships, fostering alignment, and managing expectations with reporters, media outlets, community stakeholders, government partners, and internal teams.
  • Proven ability to translate goals into actionable work plans, manage cross-functional priorities, and drive execution.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and digital communications or multimedia tools; experience with media measurement, social media, video creation, or design platforms is preferred.
  • NYC residency is required within 180 days of hire.


Salary Range

$84,000-$86,000 USD
