OVERVIEW

Vertex is seeking a senior engineering professional to lead and build our Property Condition Assessment (PCA) service line.

This role goes beyond traditional project management. You will be responsible for establishing a scalable, high-quality, and defensible PCA practice, including developing field teams, standardizing inspection methodologies, and implementing QA/QC systems.

As the technical authority and Engineer of Record, you will ensure that all assessments align with ASTM standards while delivering clear, decision-focused insights for lenders, investors, and property owners.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Building Science Engineering
  • Eng. designation in good standing
  • Multi-provincial licensing is an asset
  • 10+ years of experience in building sciences, with significant PCA and capital planning experience
  • Strong understanding of building systems and lifecycle performance
  • Deep familiarity with ASTM E2018 and related assessment frameworks
  • Proven experience training, mentoring, and overseeing field-based assessment teams
  • Strong technical writing skills and ability to produce clear, defensible, client-ready reports


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Service Line Development & Technical Leadership
  • Lead Vertex's PCA service line, including methodology, standards, and delivery model
  • Define what constitutes a high-quality, defensible assessment, with a focus on clarity and capital planning insight
  • Act as Engineer of Record, reviewing and sealing reports in accordance with provincial regulations
  • Serve as the primary technical authority for all PCA and reserve fund work


Field Team Development & Training
  • Build, train, and mentor a team of technologists, inspectors, and field staff, leveraging Vertex's broader technical team as needed
  • Develop standardized inspection protocols, checklists, and guidance tools
  • Implement a scalable model where field staff collect data and senior technical review ensures quality and consistency
  • Ensure consistency in data collection, photo documentation, and deficiency identification


Quality Assurance & Delivery Model
  • Establish and oversee QA/QC processes to ensure all reports are accurate, consistent, and defensible
  • Review field data and reports to ensure appropriate assumptions, limitations, and cost opinions are applied
  • Manage risk by ensuring clear communication of scope, limitations, and uncertainty


Project Oversight
  • Oversee project execution across a portfolio of commercial, industrial, and multi-residential properties
  • Ensure deliverables meet timelines, budgets, and client expectations
  • Support complex or high-risk assessments directly


Strategic Growth & Market Expansion
  • Support expansion into reserve fund studies / depreciation reports and the condominium / strata market
  • Assist with proposals, client relationships, and growth of the PCA service line across the U.S. and Canada.
  • Identify opportunities to integrate services with ESA, roofing, and building science offerings


LOCATION
  • Dallas-Fort Worth
  • Vertex offers a hybrid work structure, combining office and remote work.
  • The role is permanent and full-time (40 hours/week).
