The Opportunity

McElhanney is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to support and lead energy and resource sector projects across British Columbia and the Yukon Territory. Based in Prince George, this role combines technical engineering expertise, project management, client relationship management, business development, and construction support for active and developing mining projects throughout Western Canada.

The successful candidate will assume responsibility for the technical and commercial delivery of multidiscipline projects, while providing leadership and mentorship to junior engineering staff. This position is suited for an experienced professional who is establishing themselves as a technical resource within the mining sector and is capable of independently managing projects and client relationships.

McElhanney's growing mining team includes expertise in Mining, Civil, Geotechnical, and Electrical Engineering, supported by trusted external partners. The role provides opportunities to work across underground and open-pit mining projects, from feasibility and design through construction and operational support.

The ideal candidate will be based in Prince George, BC. However, we are also open to considering candidates who are willing to relocate to Prince George. Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates.

What You'll Do
  • Lead and deliver mining and heavy industrial projects through planning, design, construction, and operational support.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, including mining, civil, geotechnical, electrical, mechanical, and environmental specialists.
  • Manage project scope, budgets, schedules, resources, risks, and quality to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Provide technical expertise and practical engineering solutions for underground and open-pit mining projects.
  • Build and maintain client relationships, acting as a key point of contact on assigned projects.
  • Lead or support proposals, fee estimates, RFP submissions, and business development initiatives.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and EITs.
  • Support field investigations, construction reviews, commissioning activities, and site-based project execution as required.


What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in mining engineering, Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering would be considered an asset.
  • PEng or PGeo designation with EGBC would be preferred.
  • Typically, 10+ years of progressive experience delivering mining, industrial, or resource-sector projects.
  • Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, schedules, contracts, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong technical knowledge of mining and heavy industrial project delivery, construction, and operations.
  • Proven ability to develop client relationships and contribute to business development activities.
  • Experience mentoring junior technical staff and supporting team development.
  • Strong communication, leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and support remote or rotational assignments when required.


What Can We Offer You?

The salary range for this position is $104,000 to $156,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual's education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting.
