The successful candidate will help grow C&S's mechanical facilities presence in the California market by building client relationships, identifying and shaping opportunities, providing market intelligence, and supporting proposal and pursuit activities. The role also requires hands-on engineering leadership, including design production, coordination, quality review, and technical support throughout project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development and Market Leadership
  • Lead and support business development activities for mechanical facilities services throughout California.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, owners, architects, contractors, industry partners, and other key stakeholders.
  • Identify emerging market opportunities, client needs, procurement trends, and competitive conditions in the California facilities market.
  • Provide regular market insights to SESW Facilities leadership, including intelligence on prospective clients, funding opportunities, market sectors, and strategic pursuits.
  • Support go/no-go evaluations, capture planning, proposal development, interview preparation, and client presentations.
  • Represent C&S at client meetings, industry events, professional organizations, and networking opportunities.
  • Partner with technical and operational leadership to develop pursuit strategies and position C&S for long-term client relationships.

Mechanical Engineering and Project Delivery
  • Serve as a senior mechanical engineer for facilities projects from planning and existing-condition assessment through design, construction administration, commissioning, and closeout.
  • Perform and oversee mechanical engineering design for HVAC, plumbing, hydronic, central plant, ventilation, equipment replacement, energy-efficiency, and related building-systems projects.
  • Independently produce mechanical design documents, calculations, specifications, schedules, and construction details using Revit.
  • Develop and maintain accurate Revit models, coordinate mechanical systems with architectural, structural, electrical, civil, and specialty disciplines, and resolve design conflicts.
  • Conduct site investigations, field verification, existing-condition assessments, and client coordination meetings.
  • Support preparation of project scopes, fee proposals, budgets, schedules, and work plans.
  • Review project deliverables for technical accuracy, code compliance, constructability, coordination, and quality.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and designers.
  • Support construction-phase services, including responses to requests for information, submittal reviews, site observations, issue resolution, and commissioning coordination.

Collaboration and Client Service
  • Work closely with SESW Facilities leadership and multidisciplinary project teams to deliver coordinated, responsive services.
  • Communicate project status, risks, decisions, and technical recommendations clearly to clients and internal team members.
  • Balance client-development responsibilities with direct technical production and project-delivery commitments.
  • Contribute to a culture of quality, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in California.
  • 8 or more years of progressive mechanical engineering experience supporting facilities, building systems, or vertical infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience with HVAC, plumbing, mechanical equipment, building-systems analysis, and mechanical design documentation.
  • Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Revit, including independent production of mechanical models and construction documents.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams and working directly with clients, architects, contractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Proven business development experience, including client relationship management, opportunity identification, proposal support, and interview participation.
  • Strong understanding of the California facilities market, including regional client needs, procurement practices, market conditions, and competitive landscape.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to travel locally and regionally for client meetings, site visits, industry events, and project needs.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting public-sector, institutional, education, healthcare, aviation, municipal, commercial, industrial, or other complex facilities projects.
  • Experience with energy studies, decarbonization, building electrification, central utility systems, sustainability, retro-commissioning, or facility modernization.
  • Familiarity with California building codes, energy requirements, permitting processes, and local agency coordination.
  • Experience with mechanical construction administration and field support.
  • Experience leading or mentoring mechanical engineering staff.
  • Established client and industry relationships in the San Diego and broader California market.

What Success Looks Like
  • Builds a reliable pipeline of California mechanical facilities opportunities and strengthens client relationships.
  • Provides timely, actionable market intelligence that informs SESW Facilities growth strategy.
