Job Description:
Job Title: Senior Project Accountant
Reports To: Accounting Manager - Project Accounting
FLSA Status: Exempt
Pay Range: $95,000 - $105,000 Annually
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and review funder billings to ensure accuracy and compliance with grant agreements and Uniform Guidance requirements.
Monitor grant expenditures and project cash flow to ensure compliance with funding restrictions and organizational policies.
Collaborate with Program Managers to analyze financial performance and conduct detailed budget-to-actual analysis for grants and projects.
Review and approve multi-funded transactions across restricted and unrestricted funding sources and recommend appropriate accounting treatment.
Prepare and review journal entries related to grant reallocations, reconciliations, and funding adjustments.
Analyze financial activity and ensure proper allocation of costs across multiple funding sources.
Generate and review financial reports for internal leadership and external funders.
Assist with preparation of documentation for annual financial audits, grant audits, and compliance reviews.
Provide guidance and training to program staff on grant financial management and compliance requirements.
Identify opportunities to improve grant accounting processes and financial reporting workflows.
Maintain strong working relationships with program teams, funders, and internal finance staff.
Participate in ad-hoc analyses, special projects, and process improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent experience.
Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in nonprofit or grant-funded environments.
Significant experience with fund accounting and multi-source grant funding.
Experience with enterprise accounting systems; Workday Financial Management preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with CRM systems such as Salesforce.
