Thank you!Your RoleYou are responsible for developing and managing a portfolio of investments in AI-enabled and innovative K-12 math products-including AI tutoring, teacher-facing tools, adaptivity and practice, lesson planning, and grading and student work analysis-supporting developers and EdTech companies through rigorous research and development. You will focus heavily on products that support early elementary students in math. You connect individual investments to the K-12 strategy's focus on acceleration and equity, and you also focus on cross-cutting market research and community of practice stewardship for the team -ensuring the team maintains a current view of the AI edtech landscape and that equity-centered approaches remain central to AI product development. You have mastery-level knowledge of the AI-enabled EdTech product landscape, inclusive research and development practices, and education data principles, and bring an equity-centered lens to all aspects of your grantmaking.
What You'll Do- Negotiate, execute, and manage a complex portfolio of grants and performance-based contracts with AI-enabled and innovative K-12 math product developers (including some focused on early math), advancing products from early-stage development through validation and implementation at scale.
- Bring early math content and pedagogy expertise to bear across the portfolio, ensuring investments address the distinct learning needs and product gaps in early grades and reflect the full continuum of K-12 math learning.
- Evaluate product quality, equity, and alignment to target product profiles through rigorous investment diligence, applying a critical equity lens to assess how products serve Black and Latino students and students experiencing poverty.
- Monitor grant outcomes and grantee progress against clear success metrics, course-correcting as needed and synthesizing insights from grant outputs to inform strategy-tracking progress with an execution-first lens and identifying challenges early.
- Assess emerging products and approaches against the team's target product profiles, identify early signals that could inform investment strategy adjustments, and contribute to the team's commitment to continuous improvement of its strategic hypotheses.
- Evaluate and guide the development of AI-enabled tools with close attention to equity, ethics, privacy, and bias, drawing on knowledge of inclusive research and development practices and human-centered design.
- Engage with nonprofit and for-profit entities to translate research insights into scalable products for students and teachers, cultivating an active ecosystem of entrepreneurial product developers and ensuring strong feedback loops with the broader field.
- Contribute to K-12 team-wide efforts to incorporate advances in AI into grantmaking and investment strategy, bringing structured, evidence-based perspectives that support alignment across the team.
- Support inclusive culture through modeling behaviors and actions; escalate issues in a timely fashion to appropriate stakeholders.
Your Experience- An Advanced degree or equivalent demonstrated experience.
- Early math (e.g. K-3) content and pedagogy expertise
- Significant experience leading complex initiatives with budget responsibility at the institutional or organizational level.
- Significant experience in the development, evaluation, or management of education technology products or research and development investments, preferably in K-12 math.
- Significant experience working in or closely with K-12 education contexts, including school districts, charter management organizations, state education agencies, or education-focused nonprofits or companies.
- Mastery level knowledge of the AI-enabled EdTech product landscape, including generative AI applications in K-12 education, early math content and pedagogy, and the research and development, commercialization, and implementation continuum.
- Mastery level knowledge of education research and data principles, including equity-centered and inclusive research and development practices, human-centered design, and relevant data governance frameworks.
The salary range for this role is $190,100 to $294,700 USD. We recognize high-wage market differences in Seattle and Washington D.C., where our offices are located. The range for this role in these locations is $209,100 to $324,100 USD. As a mission-driven organization, we strive to balance competitive pay with our mission. New hires salaries are typically between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint. Actual placement in the range will depend on a candidate's job-related skills, experience, and expertise, as evaluated during the interview process.
