Compensation: The compensation range for this position is between $125k-$170k in the US and A395k-A3150k in the UK depending on location and experience.

Overview

Nexcess delivers high-performance managed hosting solutions for ecommerce and web professionals, including Managed Magento, Managed Shopware, and InterWorx.

We are seeking a Senior Product Manager - Digital Software to lead product strategy, prioritization, roadmaps, and execution across these products. The role translates client needs, market insights, technical considerations, and business priorities into clear product direction and measurable outcomes.

The Senior Product Manager will provide strategic and operational leadership, leveraging strong technical knowledge to guide product decisions and improve client and business outcomes. The role will influence areas such as adoption, conversion, retention, pricing, packaging, and margin within established decision-making processes.

The role partners closely with Engineering, Infrastructure, Design, Marketing, Sales, Client Success, Support, Finance, and executive leadership to drive alignment and advance product priorities.
Responsibilities

Product Strategy and Ownership

  • Develop and maintain product strategy for Managed Magento, Managed Shopware, and InterWorx based on client needs, market opportunities, competitive intelligence, technical considerations, and company priorities.
  • Define target client segments, client needs, value propositions, positioning, and strategic product priorities.
  • Develop and maintain product roadmaps that identify strategic priorities, key investments, trade-offs, dependencies, and expected outcomes.
  • Recommend product priorities and investment decisions based on client value, business opportunity, technical feasibility, operational considerations, and available resources.
  • Lead product decisions within the role's delegated authority and recommend decisions requiring approval from product leadership or other appropriate stakeholders.
  • Guide decisions related to plan structure, service tiers, add-ons, upgrade paths, licensing, and the end-to-end client experience.
  • Maintain a clear and defensible position on product differentiation, including the distinct client needs served by Magento and Shopware and the competitive position of InterWorx.
  • Manage product lifecycle activities, including supported software versions, end-of-life planning, deprecations, upgrade programs, and client migration paths.


Technical Product Leadership

  • Develop and maintain a working understanding of the technical components that influence ecommerce performance and reliability, including Varnish, Redis, Valkey, Elasticsearch or OpenSearch, PHP-FPM, MySQL or MariaDB, Nginx, object and full-page caching, message queues, and cron and queue workers.
  • Translate technical capabilities, constraints, and requirements into clear product requirements and decisions.
  • Partner with Engineering and Infrastructure to evaluate technical feasibility, architecture considerations, capacity requirements, performance, security, reliability, and operational risk.
  • Inform product decisions regarding default configurations, resource sizing, plan limits, supported versions, and the boundaries of services included in managed offerings.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to clients, partners, and internal stakeholders, connecting platform architecture to client outcomes such as storefront performance, checkout reliability, stability under load, and overall user experience.
  • Monitor upstream product and technology roadmaps from Adobe, Shopware, and relevant open-source projects and assess potential impacts on product strategy, client commitments, support requirements, and operating costs.
  • Partner with technical teams to identify opportunities to improve product performance, reliability, scalability, and client experience.


InterWorx Product Leadership

  • Lead product strategy and roadmap planning for InterWorx as both an internal platform component and a commercially licensed product.
  • Maintain an informed view of the hosting control panel market, including licensing models, competitive positioning, and the needs of hosting providers, resellers, agencies, and system administrators.
  • Evaluate and recommend investment priorities between internal platform requirements and the needs of external licensees.
  • Partner with relevant teams to support the technical evaluation, onboarding, adoption, and retention of control panel clients and partners.
  • Monitor market and client feedback to identify opportunities to improve InterWorx capabilities, positioning, and commercial performance.


Product and Business Performance

  • Lead product strategy and planning in support of agreed client and business outcomes.
  • Use client, market, operational, and financial data to inform recommendations related to pricing, packaging, adoption, attach rate, conversion, retention, expansion, and margin.
  • Develop business cases and product investment recommendations that consider client value, market opportunity, expected financial impact, infrastructure and licensing costs, operational requirements, risks, and resource needs.
  • Partner with Finance, Marketing, Sales, client Success, and other relevant stakeholders when evaluating commercial opportunities and product decisions.
  • Understand the relationship between product and platform decisions and unit economics, including server density, resource consumption, licensing costs, and support requirements.
  • Recommend opportunities to improve product performance and business outcomes while recognizing that commercial results may be influenced by factors outside the direct control of Product.
  • Monitor agreed product and business measures and use insights to inform prioritization, recommendations, and future investment.


New Product and Capability Development

  • Identify and evaluate unmet client needs and potential opportunities for new products, plans, features, and capabilities.
  • Lead client discovery, product validation, prototyping, benchmarking, and experimentation activities.
  • Develop recommendations regarding product opportunities based on client evidence, market information, technical feasibility, and business considerations.
  • Define and prioritize minimum viable product scope and establish appropriate measures of success.
  • Partner with Engineering, Design, Marketing, Sales, client Success, Support, and other stakeholders throughout product development and launch.
  • Use client and product performance insights to guide iteration and future investment.
  • Balance speed, quality, client value, technical feasibility, operational risk, and business priorities throughout the product development lifecycle.


Product Portfolio and Company Strategy

  • Lead the strategy and prioritization of hosted ecommerce and control panel products within the assigned portfolio.
  • Translate agreed company and portfolio strategies into actionable product plans and roadmaps.
  • Contribute client, market, competitive, and technical insights to portfolio-level product discussions.
  • Contribute to the company's AI vision and cross-portfolio software strategy as directed by the VP of Product.
  • Identify appropriate opportunities to apply AI to ecommerce hosting outcomes, including performance diagnostics, migrations, upgrades, security remediation, and client support.
  • Represent the ecommerce and control panel perspective in portfolio-level discussions involving software, infrastructure, and shared client experiences.
  • Identify dependencies, risks, and opportunities across the broader product portfolio and communicate them to product leadership.


Product Performance and Measurement

  • Establish and monitor product KPIs aligned with approved product strategies and company objectives.
  • Partner with relevant teams to support appropriate product instrumentation, data quality, reporting, and performance measurement.
  • Monitor technical performance measures such as response times, uptime, cache efficiency, and other agreed product health indicators.
  • Monitor client and business measures such as adoption, conversion, retention, expansion, and other agreed indicators of product performance.
  • Communicate product performance, key insights, risks, and recommendations to product leadership and relevant stakeholders.
  • Use quantitative and qualitative information to evaluate product performance and inform prioritization and investment recommendations.
  • Recommend adjustments to product strategy or plans when data, client feedback, or market conditions indicate a need for change.


Client Focus

  • Engage directly with merchants, agencies, developers, system administrators, and client-facing teams through interviews, support insights, sales discussions, and appropriate community engagement.
  • Incorporate client needs, feedback, and experience considerations into product strategy and prioritization.

Required Qualifications

  • Substantial product management experience, including experience operating at a Senior, Lead, or comparable level of scope and responsibility.
  • Demonstrated experience with ecommerce platforms, ideally Magento or Adobe Commerce, Shopware, or comparable open-source or enterprise commerce systems.
  • Experience with web hosting, cloud infrastructure, or related technology products, including an understanding of the technical and business considerations associated with these products.
  • Working knowledge of technologies that influence hosted application performance, such as full-page caching, in-memory data stores, search services, PHP, and database technologies.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, evaluate APIs and configurations, and engage effectively in technical discussions with engineers and system administrators.
  • Experience contributing to product or business outcomes such as revenue growth, pricing, packaging, monetization, margin, adoption, retention, or other relevant business performance measures.
