Job Summary

At OPTAVIA, Senior Product Designers collaborate closely with Product Managers, Engineers, stakeholders (internal and external), and other Product Designers to create experiences that support our mission, Clients, and Coaches. Senior Product Designers are proven designers who lead in their areas of influence. Senior Product Designers report to a Director of Product Design.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Product knowledge: Deeply understand the technology and features of the portfolios you are assigned and have a working knowledge of the end-to-end OPTAVIA products.
  2. Research: Understand the nuances and considerations between problem and solution validation, mentor other designers on how they plan their research, and work with your Product Design Manager on potential strategic research needs.
  3. Deliverables: Create tactical and strategic deliverables for the portfolios you support (for example: JTBD, UX Scorecards, wireframes, competitive evaluations, prototypes, journey maps, storyboards, design vision, and so on).
  4. Communication: Set an example for how to effectively communicate across portfolios by frequently participating in asynchronous collaboration.
  5. Usability: Proactively identify both small and large usability issues within your group(s), and help influence to prioritize them.
  6. Iteration: Understand long-term goals in your portfolio and help other Product Designers break down designs into actionable steps. Lead and coach iteration of design work for your group(s).
  7. Design system: Actively contribute to the design system, help determine whether components are single-use or multi-use, and provide recommendations to designers regarding new component requests.
  8. UI copy: Collaborate early and often on microcopy to ensure user experiences are efficient. Help improve docs and incorporate documentation within the UI as needed to assist users in moving through their workflows.
  9. Design reviews: Participate in design reviews, and model best practices for giving and receiving feedback.
  10. UX debt: Help the product teams you support to prioritize and close UX debt.
  11. Cross-portfolio collaboration: Drive cross-stage collaboration by helping designers to identify dependencies and areas for cross-department work.
  12. Mentoring: Mentor other members of the Product Design team on how to approach design problems, solicit feedback, and drive for impactful outcomes.
  13. Craft: Push forward the craft of product design in regard to our standards and approaches to design at OPTAVIA.
  14. Vision: Exert significant influence on the overall objectives and long-range goals of your section by actively contributing to the vision in collaboration with the Director of Product Design, Product, and Engineering.
  15. Early adoption: Drive innovation across the organization by driving the adoption of processes and tools.

Scope
  • Help to define and improve the experience and interface of OPTAVIA.
  • Design flows and features that fit within the larger experience.
  • Create deliverables (wireframes, mockups, prototypes, flows, and so on) to communicate ideas.
  • Work with Product Managers and Engineers to iterate on, create, and refine the existing experience.
  • Define and contribute to research initiatives (usability tests, surveys, interviews, and so on) alongside the Director of Product Design and Product Managers.
  • Stay informed and share the latest on UX/UI techniques, tools, and patterns.
  • Understand responsive design and best practices.
  • Have familiarity with how engineers work to build for web and native apps.
  • Have knowledge and understanding of design systems theory and practice.

Knowledge, Education, Skills & Abilities
  • 5-7 years of experience as a user experience designer, interaction designer, ux researcher, information architect, or similar role
  • Proficiency with design tools (e.g., Figma)
  • Visual design, communication, and critical thinking skills
