The Role:
CBC is looking for a Senior Producer to join our Scheduling & Content Planning team for a one-year contract (January-December 2027). Working with the Manager, Radio Scheduling, the Senior Producer focuses on content distribution and building relationships with external partners with the intention of creating international interest and revenue from CBC Radio programs.
The successful candidate has a background in journalism, demonstrated critical thinking skills, leadership qualities and a proven ability to juggle and prioritize multiple tasks. The candidate will operate within CBC's policies while having the autonomy to solve complex issues and make decisions independently. Management will review overall results rather than oversee daily tasks, and the producer will frequently coordinate project workflows across cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Manages relationships with CBC Radio clients in the US and public radio partners around the world.
Proactively seeks out licensing opportunities with new clients; markets CBC Radio content through cold-calling/emailing, newsletter creation, ongoing networking and initiatives to support client needs while promoting CBC Radio content.
Negotiates the financial terms of licensing agreements based on station size, budget, and the current financial climate of public media.
Engages with external clients and partners as an editorial peer and fellow journalist rather than a traditional sales representative, building relationships rooted in shared journalistic values and content quality.
Consults with CBC’s Business & Rights department to ensure rights and royalties for distributed programs are acknowledged.
Coordinates the execution of licensing agreements between the Licensor, Senior Director, and Finance.
Plans, organizes, and coordinates the delivery of CBC content to clients. Trains program teams to self-deliver content.
Coaches CBC program teams on navigating FCC rules and U.S. community standards for mature/offensive content, providing guidance and resolving compliance queries as they arise.
Works with CBC’s Technology & Infrastructure team to investigate and find solutions to delivery issues, as they arise.
Works with Finance to secure payment for licensing agreements.
Stays abreast of industry trends.
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
The job requires five years of relevant experience in a related field, preferably broadcast environment.
Strong knowledge of CBC Radio/Audio programming
In-depth experience and knowledge of Google Suite, Dalet, FTP delivery protocols, Expression Engine, and ability to understand and analyze various technical delivery frameworks.
A proven journalist with demonstrated critical thinking skills and leadership qualities.
Creativity and very strong organizational and communication skills.
Proven ability to juggle and prioritize multiple tasks and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Ability to work beyond normal office hours as project dictates
Ability to take initiative and work autonomously.
