Senior Process Safety Engineer
Duration: 12 months (long term opportunity)
Location: Houston, TX

Position Overview
This opportunity is focused on leading and supporting process safety, SEMS, risk management, and asset integrity activities within an oil and gas operating environment. The role is suited to a technically strong engineering professional with experience in safety engineering, corrosion management, and regulatory compliance. This position will contribute to the development, implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of critical safety and integrity programmes. The role also requires effective collaboration across office, field, contractor, and regulatory interfaces.
Role Context
This position sits within the oil and gas sector and supports operations across onshore and offshore facilities. The working environment includes interaction with Houston, Gulf of Mexico, and Alaska teams, as well as contractors and government personnel. The role is closely aligned to process safety management, SEMS compliance, corrosion management, and facility risk oversight in technically demanding operational settings.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support through monitoring of process and control systems to reduce or eliminate process safety events.
  • Support and improve corrosion management activities across onshore and offshore facilities to enhance reliability and safety performance.
  • Review technical reports and corrosion data to help ensure facilities conform to appropriate safety standards.
  • Maintain and prioritise a work list of corrosion-related issues based on equipment criticality.
  • Review and maintain inspection records as part of the Corrosion Management Programme for audit readiness.
  • Support the technical development, implementation, and compliance of PSM, SEMS, and risk management programmes.
  • Assist with process safety activities including HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID, PHAs, audits, Bow-Tie analysis, and risk register management.
  • Facilitate the development and maintenance of corporate and facility risk registers.
  • Champion risk management processes by maintaining accurate process safety data and promoting continuous improvement.
  • Participate in planning and scheduling short- to medium-term assignments, monitoring progress against schedule and budget.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree in chemical engineering, petroleum engineering, process engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Minimum 6-10 years of oil and gas industry experience, including safety engineering experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in asset integrity.
  • Demonstrated experience with HSEQ management systems and risk management tools.
  • Strong understanding of PSM, SEMS regulations, risk management principles, and asset integrity management principles.
  • Ability to analyse technical information and communicate effectively across office and field-based stakeholders.
  • Good communication skills and computer literacy.
