Role DescriptionAs a Senior Process Engineer, Mechanical Assembly (Night Shift), you will serve as the senior technical authority on the production floor during overnight hours, owning line performance, leading a team of technicians, and ensuring operational continuity in a high-complexity, automated manufacturing environment. This is a critical role: night shift runs with reduced cross-functional support, requiring significant autonomy in decision-making, escalation judgment, and real-time problem solving. You will bring deep mechanical intuition, strong leadership instincts, and a data-driven mindset to drive performance outcomes, mentor your team, and serve as a key feedback loop to daytime engineering and design teams. What you learn on the floor at night shapes how we build next-generation equipment. Relocation assistance is available.
What you9ll do:- Serve as the senior technical authority on the floor during overnight hours, making autonomous decisions on escalations, downtime response, and operational continuity without day-shift support structures.
- Mentor, and set daily priorities for a team of night shift technicians, stabilizing line cadence, building team capability, and driving accountability to production targets.
- Track and analyze key performance indicators: specifically OEE, yield, and cycle times, to identify bottlenecks and implement data-driven improvements that carry forward to day-shift handoff.
- Apply strong mechanical intuition to assess equipment and process issues on the fly, ensuring that proposed fixes are robust, safe, and effective, not just stop-gaps.
- Document and communicate overnight issues clearly to day-shift engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure seamless continuity and unblock recurring production constraints.
- Initiate tactical CI projects on the floor to eliminate waste, improve operator ergonomics, and optimize machine reliability - including work that carries across shifts.
- Act as the voice of the shop floor by identifying human factors/usability challenges specific to night shift operation and communicating actionable design feedback to the system engineering team.
What you9ll bring:- Bachelor9s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 4-7+ years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing, production, or fast-paced industrial operations environment; prior night shift or off-hours leadership experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated capability to manage, prioritize tasks for, and develop a technical team - including in high-pressure situations with limited escalation support.
- Strong familiarity with manufacturing metrics (OEE, downtime tracking) and a practical approach to root-cause analysis.
- A solid understanding of mechanical systems and automated equipment, allowing you to independently vet technical solutions and guide the implementation of floor-level fixes without waiting for day-shift backup.
- High autonomy and sound judgment: comfortable making real-time calls in ambiguous situations and knowing when to escalate vs. resolve independently.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to influence cross-functional peers and present clear improvement ideas to design engineers.
- A proactive, 4get-it-done4 attitude with the ability to thrive amid ambiguity and adapt quickly as we scale our technology.
Where you9ll work:This role is based at Form Factory 1 in Weirton, WV-an easy commute from the city of Pittsburgh, PA. This 550,000-square-foot facility is our hub for high-volume battery production and a leader in the new era of American energy manufacturing.
Relocation assistance is available.#LI-Onsite
