The Opportunity We are looking for a Platform Engineer for the Container Services team in Chicago. This team owns and operates Adyen's core container orchestration infrastructure, the foundation that keeps our global payment platform running. In this role, you will design, build, and operate critical infrastructure systems, drive automation and reliability improvements, and help scale Adyen's platform as we continue to grow globally.
What You'll Do- Build and operate core infrastructure: Design, implement, and maintain container orchestration (Kubernetes) and supporting infrastructure across our global private cloud.
- Drive automation and reduce toil: Develop tooling and automation that improves provisioning, configuration management, and operational workflows, enabling self-service for engineering teams and reducing manual effort.
- Ensure reliability at scale: Own the availability and performance of critical platform systems, participate in on-call rotations, and drive incident response and postmortem processes that continuously improve our operational posture.
- Collaborate across teams and time zones: Work closely with platform engineers in Chicago, contributing to a global team that operates 24/7 infrastructure across multiple regions and datacenters.
- Shape platform evolution: Contribute to architectural decisions, evaluate new technologies, and help drive platform modernization initiatives - including migration strategies, multi-region resilience, and infrastructure standardization.
Who You Are: The Essential Profile- Hands-on platform engineering experience: You have 7+ years of experience with platform, infrastructure, or software engineering.
- Linux proficiency: Advanced skills in system administration, networking (TCP/IP, DNS, routing, firewalls), and security fundamentals. Comfortable troubleshooting complex issues across the stack.
- Container technologies expertise: Hands-on experience with Kubernetes at scale, cluster operations, networking, troubleshooting. Familiarity with HashiCorp tools (Terraform, Consul, Nomad, Vault) and GitOps workflows (ArgoCD).
- On-prem / bare-metal experience: Comfortable operating on-prem infrastructure (i.e. outside of public cloud), bare-metal provisioning, hardware lifecycle, storage, and datacenter operations.
- Strong scripting and programming skills: Intermediate-to-advanced Bash proficiency and intermediate-to-advanced skills in Python or Go. Ability to build production-quality tooling and automation.
- Nice to have: Prior experience in FinTech or regulated industries where reliability and security are paramount. Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet), load balancers (HAProxy, Nginx, etc) and infrastructure-as-code at scale.

This role is based out of our Chicago office. We are an office-first company and value in-person collaboration; we do not offer remote-only roles. This role is hybrid, with 3 days per week in the office.
