Full Job Description
Summary:

We are seeking a Senior Planner to join our dynamic, collaborative and growing Planning team in Idaho! This is an exciting opportunity to work on a variety of projects, with a focus on providing community and regional planning services to cities, counties, regional, and state agencies, as well as private clients. You will play a key role in guiding public and private sector clients through development of comprehensive plans, facilities plans, zoning ordinance rewrites, specific area plans, planned community and planned unit developments, etc. We're seeking a creative experienced planner to prepare advanced planning documents, manage complex land-use projects, and provide guidance to a team of dedicated professionals.

Duties:
  • Develop, update, and implement comprehensive plans, zoning ordinance rewrites, neighborhood studies, specific area plans, facilities plan, and other specialized community and regional planning programs
  • Lead public outreach, workshops, and stakeholder meetings to gather community input on future growth and development related issues
  • Prepare detailed staff reports and present findings to the Board of County Commissioners, City Council, Planning and Commission, elected officials, and community groups
  • Review and process complex development proposals, including rezonings, annexations, site plan developments, subdivisions, and planned communities or planned unit developments
  • Monitor and lead preparation of proposals (development of scope of work, fee estimates, schedules) for community and regional plans
  • Develop, and provide oversight to a team of professionals in development of community planning projects
  • Serve as client liaison and develop client relationships
  • Participate in and manage project budget development and implementation
  • May be involved in growing work opportunities that provide billable tasks for multiple staff


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in planning or related field (e.g., Geography, Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, Political Science).
  • 6+ years of relevant professional experience with researching, writing, presenting land use development or related projects, as well as increasing responsibilities in the management of projects and/or staff.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Idaho Local Land Use Planning Act and related statutes, environmental planning principles, public agency procedures, and technical knowledge.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to establish, maintain, and develop effective working relationships with staff, clients, and regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate and lead project meetings efficiently and cohesively for the project team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong time management, organizational, team collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to present information in an easy-to-understand manner and speak persuasively about relevant topics to colleagues, clients, agency staff, teaming partners, and/or other project stakeholders and the public.
  • Proven ability to write documents, including technical information, using appropriate grammar, punctuation, and spelling for concise readability and clarity.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft 365 Suite.
