Full Job Description
NSB Omega is searching for a Senior Planner for our Client for a Project in Toronto, ON.

Assignment Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Planner to support the development and execution of a multi-billion-dollar, long-term energy infrastructure mega-project. This is a high-profile, multi-phase project with a planned operational date in 2035, requiring sophisticated project controls, integrated scheduling, and long-range execution planning.

The Senior Scheduler will play a key role in developing and maintaining the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) and providing schedule leadership across the full project lifecycle - from development and engineering through permitting, procurement, construction readiness, execution, commissioning, and ultimately project completion.

This position is suited to a seasoned project controls professional with significant experience working on mega-projects and complex capital programs, particularly within energy, power generation, heavy civil, infrastructure, nuclear, hydroelectric, or comparable environments.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development, maintenance, and ongoing optimization of the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) for a multi-billion-dollar mega-project.
  • Develop and manage complex Primavera P6 / CPM schedules covering the full project lifecycle.
  • Establish and maintain the program-level schedule framework, including WBS, coding structures, calendars, logic, milestones, constraints, interfaces, and schedule governance.
  • Integrate schedules across engineering, permitting, procurement, construction, commissioning, operations readiness, and other project workstreams.
  • Coordinate and integrate detailed schedules from multiple EPC/EPCM contractors, engineering consultants, suppliers, and other project partners.
  • Establish and monitor key interfaces and interdependencies between project packages, contracts, disciplines, and stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain credible baseline, forecast, and execution schedules throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Review, analyze, and challenge contractor schedules, assumptions, sequencing, progress updates, forecasts, and recovery plans.
  • Perform detailed critical path and near-critical path analysis, including float, logic, constraints, milestone performance, and schedule integrity.
  • Identify emerging schedule risks and potential impacts to major project milestones well in advance of execution.
  • Support schedule risk analysis, quantitative schedule risk assessments, scenario modelling, and what-if analysis.
  • Assess schedule impacts associated with changes in scope, engineering, procurement, permitting, construction strategy, interfaces, and other project developments.
  • Develop and evaluate mitigation, acceleration, and recovery strategies where schedule risks or delays are identified.
  • Support long-range planning and ensure the project schedule remains aligned with the overall project execution strategy and operational target date.
  • Provide schedule intelligence and analysis to project leadership to support major project decisions.
  • Prepare clear schedule reporting, dashboards, forecasts, and executive-level schedule updates.
  • Work closely with project management, engineering, procurement, construction, commercial, risk, cost controls, and other project controls functions.
  • Establish strong schedule management practices and ensure consistency across project teams and contractors.
  • Participate in schedule reviews, progress meetings, risk reviews, contractor meetings, and project governance forums.
  • Ensure schedule information provides a reliable basis for forecasting, decision-making, risk management, and project performance reporting.
Mega-Project Experience

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience working on major capital projects or mega-projects, preferably involving:
  • Projects valued at $1B+, with experience on projects/programs in the multi-billion-dollar range strongly preferred.
  • Long-duration projects spanning multiple years and project phases.
  • Complex engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operational interfaces.
  • Multiple EPC/EPCM contractors and major contract packages.
  • Large multidisciplinary project teams and complex stakeholder environments.
  • Owner/operator-side project controls and contractor schedule management.
  • Energy, power generation, hydroelectric, nuclear, LNG, pipeline, heavy civil, tunnelling, mining, or comparable major infrastructure projects.
Qualifications & Experience
  • 15+ years of project scheduling and/or project controls experience, preferably within major capital projects.
  • Extensive experience with Primavera P6 and Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling.
  • Early Stage-Project (Pre-FID, FEED) & Owner side Experience a Must have
  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing Integrated Master Schedules for large, complex programs.
  • Proven experience taking projects from development/FEED and engineering through procurement, construction readiness, execution, commissioning, and completion.
  • Significant experience integrating multiple contractor and discipline schedules into a program-level master schedule.
  • Strong understanding of engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and project interfaces.
  • Experience reviewing and challenging EPC/EPCM and contractor schedules from an owner/client perspective.
  • Strong understanding of schedule quality, logic, critical path, near-critical path, float, constraints, milestones, and schedule integrity.
  • Experience with schedule risk analysis, quantitative schedule risk assessment (QSRA), scenario planning, change assessment, and recovery planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify schedule risks early and assess their potential impact on major project milestones.
  • Experience presenting complex schedule information and risks to senior project leadership and executive stakeholders.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
Preferred Experience

Experience on major projects involving:
  • Hydroelectric or pumped-storage hydro
  • Power generation
  • Nuclear
  • LNG / natural gas infrastructure
  • Major pipeline infrastructure
  • Tunnelling
  • Heavy civil
  • Mining
  • Large-scale industrial or energy infrastructure
Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a senior-level project controls and scheduling professional who has worked on genuine mega-projects, not simply large construction projects.

They will be comfortable operating at both the strategic program level and detailed schedule level, understanding how engineering, procurement, contracting, construction, commissioning, and project interfaces ultimately drive the project's critical path and operational date.

The successful candidate will bring the experience and credibility to work directly with major contractors and EPC/EPCM partners, challenge schedule assumptions, identify emerging risks, and provide project leadership with a clear understanding of where the project is going, what could affect the 2035 operational target, and what actions may be required to protect the schedule.
