Job Description
Under the direction of the Manager, Planning Services, the Senior Planner - Development is responsible for a full range of planning functions related to the jurisdiction and responsibilities of Planning Services including the review, analysis and processing of development applications under the Planning Act: official plan amendment applications, zoning by-law amendment applications, site plan applications, and draft plans of subdivision / condominium; Researching and preparation of reports and other correspondence; Appear as a witness at Local Planning Appeal Tribunal hearings; Interacting frequently with community members to address planning matters; Responding to requests for planning information.
Job Requirements
- University degree in Urban Planning or related discipline combined with progressive planning experience and education in a municipal environment.
- A Registered Professional Planner (RPP) with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute and a Member in the Canadian Institute of Planners (MCIP).
- Comprehensive knowledge of municipal planning processes, the Planning Act, the Provincial Policy Statement, Growth Plan and other provincial Planning policy documents.
- Knowledge of the Ontario Professional Planners Institute Professional Code of Practice.
- Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint), land development tracking software (e.g. Accela) and GIS.
- Proven ability to work effectively and courteously with all levels of staff, external government agencies, the development community and the public, with the ability to respect confidentiality.
- Highly effective interpersonal, communication, analytical, negotiation, including strong public speaking abilities.
- Strong project co-ordination/management skills.
- Ability to organize, shift priorities and work independently.
- Class "G" Driver's Licence in good standing with own vehicle to use on corporate business.
- Available to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime.
