The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Manager, Development & Design, this role is responsible for the processing and project management of a wide range of development applications. You will review and provide a professional planning opinion and recommendation on major, high-profile development applications, and act as a resource for staff, Council and the public regarding planning processes and policies. You will be responsible for reviewing and managing development applications, presenting reports, managing stakeholder engagement, and representing the Town in public meetings and tribunal hearings.

As the Senior Planner, Development, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

  • Manage and lead complex development applications, including Official Plan Amendments, Secondary Plans, Zoning By-law Amendments, Subdivisions, Condominiums, and Site Plan applications
  • Coordinate with applicants, agencies, and stakeholders; chair regular meetings; and conduct site inspections
  • Provide professional planning opinions based on Provincial and municipal policy frameworks through reports and presentations
  • Prepare draft plan conditions, by-laws, agreements, and peer review coordination
  • Represent the Town at Ontario Land Tribunal hearings, preparing necessary documentation and providing expert witness testimony
  • Mentor and support staff within the Planning Department
  • Recommend and implement process improvements and policy updates
  • Conduct site inspections and public consultation meetings as necessary.


The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a highly motivated professional with a post-secondary degree in Planning, BES, or a closely related field. Our ideal candidate has five (5) years of progressive land use planning experience and membership in the Ontario Professional Planners Institute and Canadian Institute of Planners is preferred.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated knowledge of the Planning Act, Provincial Policy Statement, Provincial Plans, and the Regional and Local Planning Policy Framework. We are seeking an individual with superior communication and project management skills, a demonstrated ability to provide professional planning opinions, and excellent customer service and problem-solving skills.

The successful candidate for Senior Planner, Development will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, remotely and after hours (as required).

This position offers a salary range of $118,280.17 to $147,850.22 plus a competitive benefit package.

Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check, and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.
