Full Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Pharmacy Benefits Consultant to serve as a hands-on PBM strategy and execution leader within our pharmacy benefits consulting practice at a privately-owned, growth-oriented professional services firm. This role is designed for a consultant who will step immediately into a critical, client-facing role, taking direct ownership of PBM RFPs, market checks, ongoing PBM performance oversight and issue resolution.

This role requires a consultant who is highly responsive, detail-oriented, and proactive, with the judgment and confidence to advocate directly with PBMs on behalf of clients. The successful candidate will be known for timely follow-through, mastery of client plan design and contract details, and the ability to identify, investigate, and resolve issues.

How will you provide trusted advice that improves lives?
  • Perform as the primary consultant or engagement lead on PBM RFPs, market checks, negotiations, and contract reviews, with day-to-day accountability for timelines, deliverables, vendor interactions, and client communication.
  • Serve as the primary point of accountability for PBM issue identification and resolution, including proactive review of PBM reports, investigation of variances or anomalies, coordination with PBMs to resolve issues, and clear communication of findings and outcomes to clients and internal teams.
  • Provide ongoing, detailed technical review and analysis of PBM data, contracts, guarantees, and financial arrangements, including follow-through.
  • Collaborate closely with Segal client relationship managers and technical analysts, providing clear guidance to internal account teams on PBM strategy, cost-savings opportunities, tradeoffs, and modeling scenarios.
  • Supporting the growth of Segal's pharmacy consulting business by working with others to identify and cultivate existing and new client opportunities and assisting with sales and marketing initiatives, including proposal writing.
  • Own and contribute to growth and new business development efforts, including identifying prospects, shaping sales strategy, leading or supporting RFP responses and proposal development, and partnering with senior leaders to expand pharmacy consulting relationships.
  • Formulate and deliver pharmacy benefit strategies and recommendations that educate and inform clients. Present knowledgably and confidently about pharmacy benefits in front of boards, commissioners, and senior leadership.
  • Create and collaborate on innovative tools and approaches to quality assure and measure the effectiveness of PBM and Healthcare company cost and utilization management programs and clinical services for our clients
So, What Does it Take?
  • A minimum of 9 years of experience within a PBM and/or benefits consulting environment, with demonstrated experience leading PBM RFPs, market checks, negotiations, and ongoing PBM oversight.
  • In-depth knowledge of PBM providers, products, services, financial, data reporting, contracting and negotiating elements and processes.
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or RPh degree highly preferred, but not required. Equivalent experience leading PBM RFPs, market checks, contract negotiations, and PBM performance oversight will be considered.
  • Strong technical/analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent PBM initiatives with timely responsiveness, strong follow-through, and clear ownership of outcomes in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Self-starter with excellent communication and negotiation skills and demonstrated experience handling multiple projects and assignments in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with generative AI tools and their practical application to improve analytical workflows, client deliverables, and process efficiency.

The current salary range for this position is $124,500-$165,000 plus opportunity for a discretionary performance bonus based on company profitability and employee performance.
