Full Job Description
JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Payroll Practitioner position assumes accountability for day-to-day payroll duties, analyzes union and non-union payroll contracts, performs systems tests and troubleshooting, as well as investigates and researches issues. The Senior Payroll Practitioner works closely with the Controller regarding the Payroll Department's functionalities, systems issues, compliance, special projects, etc.

JOB SCOPE & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Primary Accountabilities
  • Data Input/Gathering/Processing
    • Provides support to Payroll Department with any data entry, filing, timekeeping, or other day-to-day processing tasks to meet deadlines
  • Compliance Reporting/Investigation
    • Leads preparation and completion of all statutory filings (941s, EEO, New Hire, SSA Verification, etc.)
    • Leads preparation and validation of employee benefit reporting and reconciliation
    • Leads preparation of union reports, workers' compensation reports, etc.
    • Assists Controller with research and implementation of new legislation/statutory requirements
  • Auditing
    • Regularly reviews payroll documents for compliance to statutory laws and company policies, escalating issues when they arise
    • Reviews and executes union contract changes
    • Leads and/or works closely with Controller to plan and execute yearly required audits, benefit enrollments, year-end processing, etc.
    • Reviews Payroll Department's work for accuracy
    • Assists Controller with payroll systems maintenance and testing, troubleshoots issues, etc.
    • Identifies and provides feedback to Controller regarding procedural improvements
  • Customer Service
    • Takes lead in demonstrating excellent customer service to all employees, answering questions, retrieving documents, assisting with account setup/access, etc.
    • Escalates important issues to Controller appropriately
    • Demonstrates flexibility and urgency with emergency requests
    • Assists upper management with ad hoc reports, data gathering, etc.
  • Project Audits
    • Takes lead role in preparing and executing both periodic internal and external audits (Workers' Compensation, Enterprise Zone, etc.)
