Packaging Engineer
Position Summary
We are seeking a Packaging Engineer to support the design, development, validation, and continuous improvement of packaging systems for medical device products. This role is responsible for ensuring packaging solutions protect product integrity throughout manufacturing, distribution, storage, and end use while meeting regulatory, quality, and business requirements.
The ideal candidate will leverage engineering principles and technical expertise to evaluate packaging materials, optimize packaging processes, and support product launches, sustaining initiatives, and cost-improvement projects within a highly regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and evaluate packaging systems, materials, and processes to ensure product protection, usability, and compliance with applicable quality and regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze product specifications, engineering drawings, and performance requirements to determine appropriate packaging solutions.
  • Support packaging validation activities, including transit testing, distribution simulation, package integrity testing, and shelf-life studies.
  • Evaluate packaging performance under various transportation, storage, and environmental conditions to ensure product safety and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Supply Chain, and Operations to develop and implement packaging solutions.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for packaging optimization, cost reduction, sustainability improvements, and process efficiency.
  • Support engineering change activities, design changes, and new product introduction projects.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, test protocols, reports, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Assess and recommend new packaging materials, technologies, equipment, and processes to improve product protection and operational effectiveness.
  • Ensure packaging systems comply with applicable industry standards, quality requirements, and internal procedures.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience in packaging, manufacturing, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, consumer products, or another regulated industry.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and project timelines.
Preferred
  • Experience with medical device or healthcare product packaging.
  • Knowledge of packaging validation and testing methodologies.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as ISO 11607, ASTM, and ISTA.
  • Experience supporting product development, design transfer, or manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with statistical analysis and continuous improvement methodologies.
