Summary

Performs specialized work related to communications fiber projects in support of various networks and systems, including all phases of engineering design, construction planning and support, contract administration, inspection and quality control of SRP and contract construction process. Assists in the development of project budgets and schedules, workforce and support staff requirements, and negotiations with outside telecommunications carrier for specifications and integration with SRP operational standards.

What You'll Do

  • Apply network engineering principles to plan, design, schedule, and implement fiber optic plant facilities including both civil and network related scope.
  • Performs as a leader/engineer as well as project manager and is responsible for planning, scheduling and monitoring projects from conception to closing.
  • Prepares specifications and bids associated with fiber networks material acquisition and various outsourcing activities within telecom systems.
  • Plans, coordinates, and often assists with actual performance of field work, with both internal and outsourced crews for telecom projects.
  • Identify network-related needs and problems and come up with innovative solutions to address them.
  • Coordinates key project activities with contractors, developers, customers, municipalities and consultants.
  • Establishes and applies policies, procedures, and standards to deliver safe, secure, reliable and efficient solutions.
  • Reviews and monitors contractor invoices for completeness and accuracy, also prepare payment requests based on approved services.
  • Prepares recommendation material for management consideration.
  • Administers and reviews work performed by consultants and others.


Education

A bachelor's degree relevant to the assignment from an accredited institution is preferred.

Experience

This position may be filled at one of three levels outlined below, based on the candidate's relevant education, experience, or a combination of both that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and competencies.

Level I - Associate: In lieu of a degree, 4 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 4 years may be considered.

Level 2 - Journey: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience required. In lieu of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 6 years may be considered.

Level 3 - Senior: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required. In lieu of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 9 years may be considered. Eligibility for advancement (progression) to the next level in the same role is based on overall job performance, mastery of all functional responsibilities, and time in position, as assessed by the supervisor.

Additional Requirements and Qualifications

  • Knowledge of utility telecom network operations and design principles including comm protocols and networking.


Hybrid Workplace

SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
