Senior Options Dealer | Montreal

Job Overview

The Senior Options Dealer holds overall responsibility for Monex Canada Inc.'s (MCI) trading, dealing, and options/structured products functions, working in collaboration with the Board to drive domestic business strategy and growth. This role combines senior leadership of the dealing team with hands-on responsibility for options and structured products trading strategy, client relationship management, regulatory compliance, and risk oversight. The role also carries accountability for MCI's legal and regulatory obligations, remuneration governance, complaints handling, and the overall culture of the organization, acting as a key link between the trading floor, the Executive Board, and regulatory bodies.

All staff, including this role, are required to act in accordance with the Monex Code of Conduct as detailed in their contract of employment, the Employee Handbook, and related policies, including compliance with PIPEDA and applicable Canadian regulatory requirements for all client and employee data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement trading strategies for options and structured products to maximize profitability while managing risk.

  • Monitor market conditions and identify opportunities and risks in the options and structured products markets.

  • Collaborate with other departments such as risk management, compliance, and technology to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and operational excellence.

  • Currency Trading: Execute foreign exchange trades on behalf of corporate clients, financial institutions, and other stakeholders while adhering to regulatory compliance and risk management guidelines.

  • Risk Management: Monitor market conditions, assess risk exposure, and develop strategies to mitigate currency-related risks for clients.

  • Market Analysis: Stay updated on global and regional economic developments and market trends to inform trading strategies and provide insights to clients.

  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements, reporting obligations, and internal policies.

Monex Canada Inc. (MCI)

  • In Collaboration with the board, the responsibility for MCI business strategy and growth domestically.

  • Ensuring that MCI complies with its Legal and Regulatory requirements;

  • To set the tone for an inclusive and supportive culture for all MCI staff;

  • Overall responsibility for MCI to establish, implement and maintain remuneration policies, procedures and practices that are consistent with and promote sound and effective risk management.

  • Overall responsibility for complaints handling in conjunction with the Head of Sales and Dealing Operations on behalf of the Monex Group.

Dealing

  • Overall responsibility Dealing functions;

  • Responsible for the daily performance of the dealing team;

  • Ensuring an acceptable balance between revenue delivery & Monex27s regulatory compliance policies;

  • Ensuring adherence to Compliance policies e.g. Treating Customers Fairly (TCF), Best Execution, Pricing Policies etc.;

  • Responsible for assessing the competency of the Sales & Dealing teams;

  • Maintain oversight of the Introducing Brokers (IB) department, ensuring that the acquisition, management and maintenance of their business networks (global third party strategic partnerships) is in accordance to Monex27s policies and processes.

Finance

  • Collaboration with finance team to accurately report all expenditure and revenue.

Trading Business Strategy:

  • Responsible for devising and implementing overall strategies domestically in a framework that ensures for effective oversight and governance at all levels;

  • Monitoring effectiveness of strategies in line with performance and adapting where necessary;

  • Providing input into the Marketing strategy for new products and initiatives that will increase revenues across all jurisdictions;

  • Working with the Executive Board to agree on budgets and growth plans and presenting subsequent revenue results to the board on a quarterly and annual basis.

Operational Dealing Related Activities

  • Ensuring an acceptable balance between revenue delivery & Monex27s regulatory compliance policies;

  • Ensuring adherence to Monex27s remuneration policies, procedures and practices and promote sound and effective risk management;

  • Ensuring adherence to Compliance policies e.g. Treating Customers Fairly (TCF), Pricing Policies, Gifts and Entertainment, Complaints, Training & Competence etc.;

  • Responsible for management of complaints made within the Sales teams.

  • Leads in the strategic planning for Change management/transformation 26ndash; partnering with Department Heads & IT and challenging process/workflow to create efficiencies through automation;

  • competitors strategic and operational activities and utilising this information where appropriate;

  • Oversee the management of allaspects of the distribution and marketing of financial productsand services, including the development of marketing materialssuch as advertising, presentations and roadshows;

  • Oversee the planning, organisation andparticipation for all client events and representing Monex at conferences and events promoting the company27s products and services.

  • Will be required to travel 25-30% of the time

A Senior Options Dealer is subject to the duty of responsibility and must take reasonable steps to prevent a regulatory breach occurring in order to avoid being found guilty of misconduct by the FINTRAC/Autorite9 des marche9s financiers (AMF).

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in FX, options, and structured products trading, including senior leadership of a trading and dealing function

  • Strong track record in managing regulatory compliance, risk exposure, and remuneration governance within a financial services environment

  • Proven leadership and people management experience, including mentoring and performance management of traders and analysts

  • Excellent relationship management skills, with experience engaging corporate clients, financial institutions, and strategic partners

  • Strong commercial acumen with experience contributing to business strategy, budgeting, and Board-level reporting

  • Sound understanding of Canadian regulatory requirements, including FINTRAC and AMF obligations

  • Registration as a Dealing Representative (or equivalent) with the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO), or eligibility to obtain such registration

  • Completion of the Derivatives Fundamentals Course (DFC) and Options Licensing Course (OLC), or equivalent recognized options/derivatives proficiency requirements

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience operating within a regulated FX or derivatives trading environment is highly desirable

  • Familiarity with PIPEDA and Canadian AML/ATF (FINTRAC) requirements is an asset

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and French is required, in accordance with Quebec's language requirements for the workplace

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and trading/client management systems
