What will you be doing!
  • Providing technical oversight and acting as the Facility Operations representative.
  • Ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all facility systems.
  • Applying appropriate methods and precautions for the safe handling of radioactive materials.
  • Cross-training to operate multiple facilities safely, efficiently, and competently.
  • Performing related duties appropriate to the assigned level of the position.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:
  • Education
    • Honours Bachelor's in Engineering or Science from a university of recognized standing, or membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualifications for membership in that organization.
  • Experience
    • More than 10 years of experience working in Licensed Nuclear Facilities Operations, and more than 5 years of experience working in Rod Bay Operations.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Demonstrated ability to solve complex operating challenges and implement both short and long-term remedies to allow continued safe operation of these facilities.
    • Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member and to respond to challenging schedule demands.
    • General knowledge of nuclear, mechanical, chemical, and electrical engineering fundamentals.
    • Must have demonstrated excellent written and oral abilities.
    • Ability to be self-motivated and driven.
    • Must be comfortable in performing work within a highly regulated industry.
    • Willing to obtain or attend further job-related training and accreditation.
    • Demonstrated good judgment.
    • Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member and to respond to challenging schedule demands.
    • Must possess a high sense of individual responsibility.
    • Knowledge of process, mechanical and electrical systems operations and maintenance practices.
    • Basic knowledge of business and management principles involved in project planning, budgeting and resource allocation, and coordination of resources.
    • Basic knowledge of procurement and financial processes.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Level 2 Secret requires a minimum of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security."

Working Conditions:
  • Working schedule: Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty-seven and a half (37.5) hour work week.
  • This position is part of the CRPEG union and is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in their Collective Agreement. As a member of this bargaining unit, you'll benefit from clear expectations around hours of work, wages, vacation, and other conditions that support a fair and consistent working environment.
  • Work in moderate radiation hazard environments where personal protective equipment is required. This can require standing to provide guidance on work for extended periods of time.

Location: Fully Onsite

This role is a fully onsite role that requires the employee to primarily work at CNL's Chalk River Laboratory site, with only occasional opportunities to work remotely, if desired by the employee. Located in the heart of the Ottawa Valley, our Chalk River site offers a beautiful natural setting with forests, lakes, and wildlife, right at your doorstep.
