The Senior Operations Finance Manager provides strategic and financial leadership across a major program or project, business unit area/region, or complex portfolio. The role owns the quality and consistency of financial planning, forecasting, project controls integration, compliance, and performance reporting; advises senior operations leaders; and drives corrective action where execution and financial expectations diverge. This position develops managers and analysts and leads scalable improvements across processes, systems, and governance.
Responsibilities
- Direct operations finance activities across a major program or project, business unit area, or complex portfolio, or multiple operating groups.
- Own integrated financial outlooks and ensure alignment among operational plans, project forecasts, consolidated reporting, cash flow, and earnings expectations.
- Lead senior-level project and portfolio reviews focused on execution, forecast credibility, risk, opportunity, and corrective actions.
- Advise business leaders on financial tradeoffs, resource deployment, contract performance, change recovery, investment decisions, and strategic priorities.
- Ensure consistent application of revenue recognition, project accounting, forecasting, risk, and internal control requirements.
- Identify systemic performance trends and lead cross-functional responses with operations, project controls, accounting, commercial, procurement, and leadership.
- Develop scalable dashboards, decision-support tools, governance routines, and management reporting.
- Lead annual planning, long-range planning, scenario analysis, and business-case development for assigned operations.
- Manage and develop finance managers and senior analysts; build succession depth and consistent capability across the team.
- Sponsor cross-portfolio finance transformation, system implementation, and process standardization initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Broad leadership capability across operations finance, project accounting, forecasting, and business performance.
- Strong executive judgment and ability to translate complex operational issues into financial implications and decisions.
- Demonstrated success leading managers and building high-performing finance teams.
- Expert knowledge of construction or EPC project economics, controls, revenue recognition, and cash management.
- Ability to establish governance and drive adoption across multiple projects or operating groups.
- Strong executive communication, facilitation, and influence skills.
- Advanced analytical, scenario modeling, and strategic planning capability.
- Proven change leadership in high-growth or transforming organizations.
EDUCATION AND/OR WORK EXPERIENCE - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- Typically ten to fifteen years of progressive finance, project accounting, project controls, or related experience, including significant people leadership.
- Construction, engineering, utilities, or EPC experience required; major project or multi-business experience preferred.
- CPA, CMA, MBA, or relevant professional certification preferred.
