Job Description:

The Platforms, Technologies, and NPI group at Solar Turbines leads the development of innovative products that are critical to our customers' success across a wide range of industries. We are seeking a motivated and creative Senior NPI Controls Design Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role operates within an agile development environment and plays a key role in enabling profitable growth and delivering high-value solutions to our customers.

As a Senior NPI Controls Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing electrical systems and controls logic that serve as the operational core of our turbomachinery packages. This position requires a strong understanding of control logic, system integration, and the ability to translate complex gas turbine functionality into reliable, efficient, and safe automated systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and Development: Lead the design and development of electrical systems and controls logic for industrial gas turbine packages, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, industry standards, and customer requirements.
  • Collaboration: Help the Product Owner, Scrum Master, and team translate business needs and design requirements into actionable items to develop and improve product design. Collaborate closely with a cross-functional team, including mechanical, hydromechanical, and electrical, to ensure seamless integration of control systems within the overall gas turbine package. Work with teams across the organization-including Field Service, Supply Chain, and Business Development-to understand technical challenges and contribute to effective solutions.
  • New Product Introduction (NPI): Participate in the NPI process, from concept to production, including prototyping, testing, and validation of new designs.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support and expertise during the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of gas turbine packages.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for design improvements and cost reductions, and implement changes to enhance product performance, reliability, and serviceability.
  • Documentation: Prepare and maintain detailed engineering documentation, including design specifications, drawings, and test reports.
  • Safety Driven: Contribute to risk identification and mitigation strategies to ensure program and customer deliverables are safely met. Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
  • Mentorship: Provide mentorship to less experienced engineers and contribute subject matter expertise within the team.
  • Agile: Willingness to take on new challenges and acquire cross-functional skills to enhance team capabilities.

Degree Requirement:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Mid to Senior level experience in RSLogix software design and TT4000 HMI Display design
  • Proficiency in Promis.E, Windchill, and other engineering tools
  • Working knowledge of control systems, gas turbine operation, and driven equipment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and present technical information to stakeholders
  • Ability to plan and prioritize daily tasks to align with overall team objectives. A proven track record of meeting deadlines and delivering high-quality results

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience developing and maintaining Electrical Loop Schematic (ELS) and control system layouts
  • Experience sourcing electrical components, sizing cables, and ensuring compliance with design standards and system needs
  • Experience create bills of material and documentation to support manufacturing, testing, and field deployment
  • Understanding of standard composite logic libraries and implementation methodologies.
  • Knowledge of NEC, CE directives, ATEX, and machinery certification standards
  • Experience with Agile development environments and tools
  • Familiar with Process & Instrumentation Diagrams


Summary Pay Range:

$112,704.00 - $169,056.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
