The senior newsletter editor is responsible for daily editing and long-term planning and strategic development of a new flagship evening newsletter. Additionally, the senior editor will partner with a variety of coverage leaders from around the newsroom to develop and execute newsletter strategies that align with their content strategies. This role will also work with newsletter team leadership to set strategies and initiatives that support the goals of the larger Audience organization.

Your Role Accountabilities...
• Edit a new daily evening flagship that delves deeper into the day's most important or compelling news, with a conversational yet journalistically rigorous approach that upholds CNN's editorial standards.
• Work with newsletter writer and team leadership to set and execute strategic goals for the newsletter that align with the audience organization's mission.
• Partner with assigned coverage teams from around the CNN and own their newsletter portfolios: Evaluating and optimizing performance of existing newsletters; ensuring adherence to best practices; proactively identifying opportunities for experiments and tests; and actively suggesting new ideas for concepts, content, and form. Establish regular touchpoints with assigned coverage leaders to review performance and trends.
• Work with news and audience leaders to identify new topics/audience segments to target with newsletters.
• Work with team leadership to set strategic goals that align with the audience team mission and take the lead on identifying and executing tactics that support them.
• Shepard launches of new newsletters, working with product, analytics, marketing, legal, design, distribution operations, and off-platform.
• Collaborate with colleagues on other Audience teams that partner with the same newsroom groups (Off-Platform, Audience Development) to share knowledge on trends and performance.
• Write, edit, produce, and send newsletters as needed.
• Regularly pitch new ideas for newsletter products to team leadership.

Qualifications & Experience...
• 5-7 years of relevant experience, including writing or editing on a daily deadline.
• A copy editor's eye for style and formatting errors. Fact-checking experience a plus.
• Fluency in newsletter best practices and email metrics.
• A confident generalist with great news judgment, who can dive deeper into specific coverage areas as needed, identify the day's most important topics and address them with authority, and generate constant ideas for new products, features, and experiments.
• A strategic thinker who can connect the team's daily work to the organization's larger goals.
• A creative thinker who can use data to spot trends, spark new ideas, and generate actionable recommendations.
• A clear communicator and proactive collaborator with endless curiosity about our audiences' interests and needs.
