Senior Mechanical Engineer / Project Manager

Our mechanical team is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer / Project Manager to join our multi-disciplinary team anchored in Montreal. Arup is known for designing innovative and sustainable solutions for our clients in the US, Canada, and globally.

You will work on projects within various industry and beyond. The Opportunity:
  • Lead mechanical engineering designs and providing multi-disciplinary design leadership on projects. Design of mechanical systems including complete airside systems, heating and cooling hydronic plant systems, specialty exhaust systems, and steam systems.
  • Lead the mechanical design of complex building projects across commercial, institutional, transportation, aviation, healthcare, and mission-critical sectors.
  • Develop HVAC, plumbing, hydronic, smoke control, and sustainable building systems from concept through detailed design and construction support.
  • Perform load calculations, energy analysis, system sizing, and equipment selection using industry-standard software tools.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, sustainability targets, and client requirements.
  • Support sustainable and low-carbon design strategies aligned with net-zero and decarbonization objectives.
  • Participate in project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and resource management activities
  • Work in collaboration with different stakeholders and code officials to deliver integrated projects through construction.
  • Coordinate with multiple disciplines and working in conjunction with project managers to deliver comprehensive and coordinated design deliverables.
  • Assisting, Supervising or mentoring team members and delivering timely feedback and recognition to others.
  • Maintain strong client relations as it pertains to project delivery and repeat business.
  • Prepare drawings, specifications, technical reports and presentation materials and incorporate sustainable design methods in buildings.
  • Present technical material in traditional and innovative ways for review by technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Participate in local Professional Associations.
  • Responsible for quality standards, commercial metrics, and client relations for projects.

Is this role right for you?
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering.
  • P.Eng license or have the ability to obtain one within 6 months of joining.
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience designing HVAC systems (airside and hydronic), with demonstrated leadership on mid- to large-scale building projects.
  • Offer extensive experience in healthcare and/or science/lab environments, with a deep understanding of relevant codes, compliance, and design nuances.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills essential for client engagement, team leadership, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
  • Excel at managing multiple priorities in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
  • Have a proven track record in business development, proposal strategy, and client relationship management.
  • Show financial acumen in monitoring budgets, achieving revenue targets, and implementing risk controls.
  • Exhibit proficiency in preparing and maintaining mechanical specifications with technical accuracy, clarity, and alignment to industry standards.


Preferred Skills:
  • LEED Accreditation or WELL Certification.
  • Engineering analysis and energy modeling experience including whole building energy analysis, façade thermal analysis, and airflow modeling.

Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Montreal is $114,450 to $168,000 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Montreal will differ.
