Role Description

Form Energy is hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our module design team in Berkeley, CA. This position is part of a growing team. It will ideally suit a mechanical design engineer with experience in 3D modeling, 2D drafting, structural analysis, cost and mass-down efforts, disciplined engineering rigor, and taking a design into high-volume production. You're eager to dive deep into technical challenges, can work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities, and are willing to roll up your sleeves, do hands-on prototyping, and work collaboratively and cross-functionally with test, SIE, manufacturing, supply chain, and other teams.

What you'll do:
  • Design, prototype, and own the release of components to meet performance and functional requirements, with a focus on manufacturability, weight, performance and cost.
  • Drive design release process (CAD/BOM, change management, documentation) and lead DFMEA development, risk identification, and RPN burn-down.
  • Lead key supplier engagements and partner with manufacturing engineering to transition designs from prototype to high-volume production.
  • Collaborate with Cell and Enclosure teams to define and develop interface requirements and integrated solutions.
  • Own validation and compliance testing, ensuring component performance, reliability, and readiness for release.
  • Support line bring-up activities, including hands-on fabrication and testing of first-of-a-kind prototypes to validate design decisions.


What you'll bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) with 4+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD and 2D drafting (SolidWorks)
  • Proficiency in analysis tools (e.g., FEA) or Python is a plus
  • Strong fundamentals in first-principles engineering and design rigor. Ability to balance performance, manufacturability, and cost
  • Experience designing plastic components across a range of resins and manufacturing processes
  • Experience with DFMEA, design release processes, and engineering change management (ECOs)
  • Excellent communication skills with strong organizational and cross-functional collaboration capabilities
  • Experience taking products from early-stage development through production
  • Understanding of battery systems, electrochemical systems, and fluidics is a plus
