SummaryBuilding modular data centers and supporting power systems requires solving extraordinary structural, thermal, and logistics puzzles. We are seeking a highly skilled, hands-on
Senior Mechanical Engineer & Team Lead to define the physical architecture of our heavy-duty product lineup and guide its mechanical execution from concept to field commissioning.
In this dual-impact role, you will act as both a principal designer and a technical leader. You will own the structural integrity, transportability, and environmental containment designs for our industrial-scale E-houses and heavy structural steel skids. Simultaneously, you will lead, task, and mentor a team of mechanical engineers and CAD designers, ensuring that every weldment, enclosure assembly, and rigging scheme is engineered to the highest standards of safety, quality, and manufacturability.
Key Responsibilities1. Mechanical Team Leadership & Governance- Technical Mentorship & Direction: Lead, task, and manage the mechanical engineering design team. Establish modeling standards, define drafting templates, and execute rigorous design reviews.
- DFM & DFMA Ownership: Drive Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA) best practices across the engineering lifecycle, collaborating closely with fabrication shops and assembly line leads.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner directly with Electrical, Systems, and Certification engineering teams to ensure physical enclosure layouts support electrical clearances, cable routing, and regulatory compliance.
2. Structural Design Leadership- Heavy Structural Design: Architect robust, low-deflection structural steel base frames (skids) capable of supporting ultra-heavy power equipment (transformers, switchgear, liquid-cooled battery racks).
- Rigging & Transport Logistics: Design integrated lifting lugs, spreader-bar interfaces, and tie-down schemes. Analyze dynamic over-the-road transit forces to ensure safe logistics.
- Finite Element Analysis (FEA): Perform and supervise comprehensive linear and non-linear structural FEA on structural frames, lifting setups, and cabinet paneling to validate stress, deflection, and fatigue limits
3. Enclosure & Environmental Integration and Test- Environmental Containment: Design and detail E-houses, walk-in modular enclosures, and outdoor containment cabinets. Establish robust ingress protection strategies (e.g., NEMA 3R, IP55, IP66).
- Thermal Management Integration: Collaborate with HVAC and thermal engineers to integrate complex air-conditioning, liquid cooling, and active ventilation systems. Ensure optimized airflow pathways, ducting configurations, and condensation mitigation.
- Seismic & Wind-Load Compliance: Ensure all structural weldments, panel interfaces, and equipment anchorages comply with site-specific seismic and wind-load requirements under the International Building Code (IBC) and ASCE 7.
- Prototyping & Testing: Define physical testing procedures for prototype validation, including rain-ingress testing, structural deflection deflection tests under maximum load, and seismic vibration simulation.
Technical Expertise- Structural Welding & Codes: Strong expertise in AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction) standards, AWS D1.1 (Structural Welding Code - Steel), and sheet metal fabrication techniques.
- Physical Modeling: Expert command of structural physics, beam theory, shear-moment diagrams, and thermal expansion dynamics.
- Software Tooling:
- 3D CAD: Expert proficiency in SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or PTC Creo.
- FEA: Hands-on experience with ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation, or Autodesk Nastran.
- PLM/PDM: Strong familiarity with product lifecycle management tools to manage Bill of Materials (BOMs) and drawing releases.
Physical Demands- Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
- Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
- Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
- Occasional travel may be required.
SalaryThe stated range includes Base Salary. A comprehensive benefits package is offered in addition to this range.
The range described in this posting is an estimate by the Company, and may change based on several factors, including but not limited to a change in the duties covered by the job posting, or the credentials, experience or geographic jurisdiction of the successful candidate.
Base Salary: $118K - $162KTypical Experience- 7+ Years of hands-on mechanical design experience in the power distribution, modular E-house, industrial HVAC packaging, or custom containerized container industry.
- 2+ Years of experience in a lead role coordinating, reviewing, and driving the deliverables of CAD designers, draftspersons, or junior engineers.
- Proven track record of taking complex structural steel and sheet metal assemblies from initial napkin sketches all the way to high-volume manufacturing or heavy field deployment.
Typical Education- Required: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a highly related technical discipline.
- Preferred: Professional Engineer (PE) license or an advanced degree in Structural/Mechanical Engineering.
