Full Job Description
What are we looking for (Position Summary):

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our product development team supporting the Buxco® line of respiratory and inhalation systems. This role will focus on sustaining and enhancing current products while driving the design and development of next-generation systems. The ideal candidate will have expertise in mechanical design, precision instrumentation, and complex system integration, with a passion for innovation in preclinical respiratory research tools.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead the mechanical design and development of new respiratory and inhalation systems from concept through commercialization.
  • Provide sustaining engineering support for existing products, including design updates, reliability improvements, and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain detailed design documentation, including system state diagrams and requirements documents in accordance with company documentation policies.
  • Conduct engineering analysis including multi-factor tolerance studies, DFMEA, and risk assessments.
  • Collaborate with electrical, software, firmware, manufacturing, and scientific services teams to ensure system-level performance.
  • Support prototype fabrication, design verification, and product validation activities.
  • Interface with suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure manufacturability and quality of mechanical designs.

Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably in medical devices, life sciences, or precision instrumentation.
  • Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, pneumatics, and precision mechanical systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with new product development, including design, prototyping, verification, and commercialization.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, good modeling practices and mechanical analysis software.
  • Experience with design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to quickly and efficiently understand, condense, organize and communicate information across disciplines to facilitate informed technical decision making.
  • A strong knowledge of materials, fabrication & machining processes and manufacturing processes.
  • Must be self-motivated and a team player, with personal responsibility to deliver on commitments

Bonus Skills & Experience
  • Knowledge of physiology, including respiratory, cardiac, and neurological systems.
  • Sensor experience, including micro and nano sensors.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulatory standards (ISO 9001, CE marking).

Education and Experience Required:
  • S. in Mechanical Engineering with 5-7 years of engineering experience
  • MS in Mechanical Engineering with 3 years of engineering experience
