Job Description

Senior Mechanical Engineer - Federal draws on strong buildings engineering knowledge and industry experience to consistently produce project deliverables that meet project requirements and project manager and client expectations. Work consists of advanced mechanical design for the built environment including but not limited to HVAC, piping and plumbing, and the use of digital practice technology such as Revit as well as mechanical engineering specific computer applications.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Applies strong mechanical engineering skills, experience and knowledge to the design and oversight of the design, for building projects.
  • Manages and plans the production resources and workflow to produce the design documentation, drawings, and calculations required for mechanical engineering projects.
  • Meets technical, contractual, schedule, budgetary and client service objectives for each project.
  • May periodically act as QC reviewer on projects.
  • Nurtures existing client relationships and proactively pursues opportunities for new business.
  • Attends and leads in-house project meetings.
  • Actively participates and collaborates with our extended mechanical engineering group in the US-West.
  • Produce project requirements including basis-of-design narratives, opinions-of-probable-costs estimates, drawing documentation, systems design and technical specifications.
  • Research, prepares, and presents mechanical system options and clear communication of associated impacts to the overall project goals.
  • Prepares required calculations to meet project requirements.
  • Use IES software to produce building loads and heating and cooling block loads.
  • Handles development of design and document preparation in written and computer-aided design formats and ensures that contract documents are delivered in a timely fashion while meeting required codes and quality assurance standards.
  • Participate in design conflicts resolution and questions and provides recommendations to address issues and add value.
  • Performs field investigations and analyzes existing conditions to develop comprehensive engineering solutions.
  • Actively participates in the development of design staff through work on projects as well as serving as a trainer, mentor and resource for junior design staff.
  • Reviews drawings and research code issues to comply with national, city, state, and county regulations.
  • Lead in editing technical specifications for each specific project.
  • Compile energy modeling results and subsequent impacts to the proposed mechanical systems to evaluation by Project Manager.
  • Provides construction administration support such as reviewing contractor RFI's, issuing field directives, performs construction observation and punch lists, reviews contractor change requests.
  • Maintains and expands current knowledge of technologies, trends and the markets in which we work as they apply to the applicable project types and continually strengthens skills.
  • Actively participates in meetings, initiatives, and projects that support studio and firm-wide goals.


Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Designing HVAC and plumbing systems for facilities and built environments.
  • Familiarity with, clients, projects, fee, scope, and teams to achieve budget, schedule and deliverable objectives while meeting key stakeholder critical success factors.
  • Familiarity with, and ability to produce, project-related documents and documentation standards
  • Ability to integrate design elements with other disciplines to deliver a coordinated design.
  • Familiarity with and ability to apply sustainable design principles.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with owners, other disciplines involved in the project, contractors, suppliers, etc.
  • Ability to apply logic, reasoning, and organizational skills to structure concepts and ideas into projects.
  • Experience using BIM software; in particular, Revit MEP.
  • Experience using AutoCAD software.
  • Experience using Bluebeam software.
  • Experience using IES software.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant codes and standards
  • Have a valid drivers license and a clean MVR

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited curriculum in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 15-years' experience as a Mechanical HVAC & Plumbing Design Engineer for buildings.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer is required.

Auxilliary Qualifications - while not necessarily a requirement for this position in each circumstance, provide additional depth and value to the role.
  • Familiarity with and ability to apply sustainable design principles within projects.
  • LEED Green Associate or LEED AP
  • WELL certified
  • This position exists at the following Stantec locations, Seattle Lynnwood, WA, or Sacramento, CA.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
