Are you an accomplished Mechanical Engineer with deep expertise in HVAC and plumbing systems, ready to lead complex projects and drive innovative engineering solutions? In this role, you will provide technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, and serve as a trusted advisor on challenging projects that create resilient, sustainable, and high-performing environments. Our hybrid work environment provides the flexibility to collaborate in the office while balancing remote work from home.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Create and nurture client relationships and lead project delivery for MEP/Facilities opportunities. You'll work toward high-level goals while maintaining strong technical standards.
  • Work with our sales team to develop proposals that respond to client requests for proposals (RFPs). Review proposals to ensure they follow firm policies, industry standards, and all applicable regulations. Meet with clients to understand their current and future design needs.
  • Attend conferences, symposia, etc. to improve the visibility of the firm's products and services in collaboration with applicable sales staff.
  • Develop systems and studies ranging from basic to high complexity, including HVAC master plans, HVAC and plumbing systems, mechanical systems (co-generation), and energy efficiency or green building solutions.
  • Review draft designs for compliance with federal, state and local regulations and sign off on completed designs. Ensure that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to junior team members. Mentor more junior staff and develop them for future growth within the discipline and firm. May supervise the work of junior engineers on project work.

Skills & Abilities

  • Expert knowledge of 3D and 4D design software (such as CAD tools) and best practices.
  • Expert knowledge of engineering design principles.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office tools like Excel and Word.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Expert knowledge of federal, state and local regulations.
  • This position requires U.S. citizenship in order to comply with U.S. government contract and federal site access requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Architectural or Chemical Engineering, or in Engineering Technology or related discipline.
  • Professional engineering (PE) license.
  • 12 years of related experience.
  • Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project Management Professional (PMP), Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) or Certified Construction Manager (CCM) desired.
  • Proficiency with HVAC load calculation tools (e.g., Trane, TRACE, HAP, Energy Plus)

This pay range is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels for the geographic location assigned to the position. In addition to geographic location, a candidate's salary is determined by several other factors including, but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, relevant work experience, skills, required certifications, and education/training.

All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
