Job Description:

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer in our Industrial Equipment & Automation Division, you will be responsible for the design, development, validation, and continuous improvement of industry-leading welding equipment. Working within our Customer Backed Innovation (CBI) process, you'll lead mechanical development from concept through production, solve complex technical challenges, and collaborate across disciplines to deliver reliable, high-performance products used in demanding industrial environments around the world.

Product Design & Development
  • Participate in Voice-of-Customer visits and Customer Backed Innovation (CBI) activities to transform customer insights into meaningful product solutions.
  • Lead mechanical design efforts from concept through prototype, testing, Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA), production, and continuous product improvement.
  • Design enclosures, sheet metal parts, custom plastic components, aluminum extrusions and castings.
  • Integrate mechanical and electrical systems including power electronic converters with high voltage spacing requirements, thermal management requirements, printed circuit board assemblies, vibration robustness and detailed electrical power routing.
  • Support reliability testing and regulatory compliance activities, including CSA, CE/UKCA, IEC/EN, UL, ETL, and other applicable industry standards.

Technical Leadership
  • Serve as a lead mechanical engineer in product development projects and provide technical support for product sustainment activities.
  • Assess project scope, technical complexity, and timeline estimates, providing recommendations that support successful project execution.
  • Identify technical risks and implementation challenges early and help develop mitigation plans to maintain project schedules and objectives.
  • Provide technical mentoring and coaching for Mechanical Engineers and Designers.
  • Leverage and promote established engineering processes and best practices to drive effective design decisions and project execution.
  • Conduct design reviews and provide guidance on technical decisions and trade-offs.


Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with product managers, engineers, technicians, manufacturing, service, and suppliers to successfully develop and launch products.
  • Provide engineering support for manufacturing, service, warranty and field-related issues.


QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • 8+ years of experience developing mechanical solutions for industrial products.
  • Experience designing enclosures, sheet metal structures and brackets, custom plastic components, aluminum extrusions, castings and machined components is preferred.
  • Experience integrating mechanical and electrical systems including power electronic converters with high voltage spacing requirements, thermal management designs, printed circuit board assemblies, vibration robustness and detailed electrical power routing is preferred.
  • Demonstrated success delivering innovative product designs while meeting project timelines.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks, PDM Professional, SolidWorks Simulation and CF Design is preferred.
  • Experience developing products for compliance with UL, CSA, CE/UKCA and IEC/EN regulatory requirements is preferred.
  • Experience supporting products through development, production release, and ongoing manufacturing support.
