The
Senior Marketing Associate develops and executes marketing programs that attract high-quality manuscript submissions and increase engagement with researchers and authors across a portfolio of five peer-reviewed Science journals. Through email campaigns, webinars, conferences, calls for papers, and other outreach activities, this role helps raise journal visibility, strengthen author relationships, and encourage submission of impactful research.
Reporting within the Institutional Licensing team, the Senior Marketing Associate works closely with editorial, publishing, sales, and marketing colleagues to support journal growth. This position helps connect author acquisition, journal reputation, content usage, and subscription value by ensuring journals are well positioned within their research communities and continue to attract influential authors and high-quality research.
What You'll Do- Partner with Institutional Licensing, publishing, and editorial teams to align author acquisition and content marketing strategies with broader journal growth, usage, and subscription objectives.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen journal reputation and research impact through strategic author recruitment, community engagement, content promotion, and audience development activities.
- Monitor and analyze submissions, publication performance, author engagement, campaign effectiveness, usage, and market trends to identify opportunities for growth and inform strategic decision-making.
- Contribute to the development and execution of marketing strategies and campaigns designed to increase high-quality submissions and support journal revenue goals.
- Develop marketing initiatives that increase awareness, engagement, and usage of journal content among key research communities, supporting journal reputation and institutional value.
- Prepare presentations for stakeholders, communicating campaign performance, key metrics, market insights, and progress toward journal objectives.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to conduct audience and author research, identify market opportunities and gaps, and develop targeted marketing plans to address them.
- Coordinate the development of marketing collateral and promotional assets in partnership with design and content teams.
- Stay current on developments in scholarly publishing, research communications, marketing technologies, and industry best practices.
Minimum Requirements- Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, scientific publishing, or a related field.
- Five or more years of experience in academic marketing or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated success developing and executing marketing campaigns that drive audience engagement and measurable results.
- Knowledge of the scholarly publishing landscape, author acquisition strategies, and the institutional library marketplace.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience managing email marketing, digital campaigns, webinars, conferences, and other audience engagement initiatives.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines across a portfolio of journals.
- Experience utilizing a variety of marketing channels and platforms, including digital, social media, email, and content marketing.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and a commitment to fostering positive working relationships across diverse teams and stakeholders
- Highly organized and self-motivated
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects
- Strong written and verbal communication skills

The anticipated initial rate of compensation for this position is between $80,000 - $85,000 per year.
