Position Overview: Wayfinders Senior Managing Consultant - Physical AI

Senior Managing Consultants own complex Physical AI engagements end-to-end - from initial framing through sustained value realization - leading multi-disciplinary teams across perception, modeling, and execution disciplines. Physical AI describes systems that perceive the physical world (sensors, cameras, connectivity), reason about it (AI/ML, simulation, digital twins), and act on it (robotics, automation) - think computer vision-guided quality inspection, predictive maintenance from sensor telemetry, or a digital twin that simulates a warehouse before automation goes live.

Where a Managing Consultant owns architecture and delivery for a single engagement, Senior Managing Consultants are the primary point of accountability for the full client relationship, often overseeing multiple Managing Consultants and workstreams at once.

Key Responsibilities

Client & Engagement Leadership
  • Own day-to-day client leadership across complex Physical AI engagements, partnering with business, operations, and technology leaders to frame problems and define success metrics
  • Manage scope, risk, and stakeholder expectations across concurrent technical and physical/operational workstreams

Technical & Solution Leadership
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership across the physical AI stack without being the primary engineer
  • Validate architectural decisions for scalability, reliability, safety, and maintainability
  • Act as first escalation point for complex technical, architectural, or delivery challenges

Delivery Oversight
  • Lead teams of Managing Consultants, Senior Consultants, and Consultants across multiple workstreams
  • Ensure engineering discipline, MLOps, and Responsible AI/safety standards are applied consistently
  • Oversee deployment and lifecycle management of production physical AI systems, including robotics/automation components

Team & Practice Development
  • Coach and develop delivery leaders and high-potential team members
  • Support opportunity shaping, proposals, and client expansion
  • Contribute reusable delivery patterns, playbooks, and accelerators

Required Skills & Experience

Experience & Education
  • 6-10 years in consulting or equivalent delivery leadership roles
  • Proven ownership of complex, end-to-end physical AI or automation engagements - spanning perception, modeling, and execution
  • Demonstrated experience delivering production solutions with measurable business outcomes in real operating environments
  • Bachelor's required; advanced degree preferred

Technical & Delivery Competency - the physical AI stack
  • Computer vision / vision AI
  • Industrial IoT, sensors, and telemetry
  • Digital twins and simulation
  • Robotics and automation systems
  • Cloud data/AI platforms, ML/LLM systems, and orchestration patterns as applied to physical operations
  • Ability to assess and guide architectural/tooling decisions across software and physical systems without coding or engineering hardware daily
  • Working knowledge of MLOps, Responsible AI, governance, and safety considerations for physical/robotic systems

Leadership & Client Competencies
  • Strong client-facing communication and stakeholder management
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams (technical, robotics/automation, operations) and manage ambiguity
  • Structured problem solving with bias toward action
