Full Job Description
About the Role

SJC Media is looking for a Senior Manager, Video Production to lead our video team and help us build the next generation of video & audio production across Toronto Life, Maclean's, Chatelaine, FASHION, HELLO! Canada, Canadian Business and our broader portfolio.

We have big ambitions for video: a fast-moving, modern production studio that creates great work at scale, experiments with new formats and technology, and moves quickly when an opportunity hits.

You'll lead our current team of four creators and editors while staying close to the work yourself, developing new video franchises one day, directing a cover shoot or building a smarter AI-assisted workflow the next. As the team proves its impact and revenue, you'll have real input into how it grows.

The person we want is creative, organized, easy to work with, and genuinely into where video and AI are headed. But you also know the difference between a tool that helps and a gimmick that gets in the way.

What You'll Do

Lead the Team and the Work
  • Lead, coach and develop our video creators, editors and interns, and build a collaborative, ambitious team culture.
  • Come up with new formats and franchises, not just execute what's already working.
  • Stay hands-on across production: concepting, scripting, directing, shooting and editing.
  • Lead everything from quick-turn social videos to major editorial shoots, live productions, client campaigns and and events.
  • Partner with editorial, social and audience teams so video feels distinct to each brand.
  • Use performance data to guide what we make next.

Build a Modern, AI-Forward Production Operation
  • Manage production schedules, team capacity and resources across multiple brands and projects.
  • Build simple, effective workflows across ClickUp, Dropbox, Frame.io and our production tech stack, and look for ways to simplify how we work.
  • Source and manage freelancers, production partners and vendors.
  • Use AI to speed up production and unlock creative ideas, turning what works into repeatable workflows and evaluating new tools by the results they deliver.
  • Help the team learn and adopt new tools through practical training, always applying AI within our editorial standards and guidelines.

Help Grow the Business
  • Partner with our branded content and commercial teams on client programs and pitches, contributing creative ideas and shaping budget and scope.
  • Develop video franchises and formats that attract audiences, advertisers and sponsors.
  • Support major events and cultural moments, from festivals and red carpets to live activations.
  • Find smart ways to capture once and create many things from it.

What You Bring
  • Significant experience producing standout video across content, media, or agency environments, including leading creative people and complex productions.
  • A portfolio that shows strong visual storytelling across formats, platforms and production styles.
  • You're still a maker: you can script, produce, direct, shoot and edit, and know what it takes to get great work out the door.
  • Strong knowledge of Adobe Premiere and the broader video production ecosystem.
  • A deep understanding of social and digital video and how audiences behave across platforms.
  • Experience managing budgets, schedules, freelancers, vendors and multiple productions at once.
  • Genuine experience around AI and emerging technology, with the judgment to experiment without compromising editorial standards or audience trust.
  • A collaborative, personable style: you build trust easily with everyone from creators and editors to clients and senior leaders.
  • Comfortable with change: you enjoy solving problems and don't need a perfect playbook before trying something new.

Bonus Points
  • You've built new production workflows, teams or studio capabilities before.
  • Experience with motion graphics, animation or visual effects.
  • Experience producing live events, livestreams or large-scale shoots.
  • Podcast or audio production experience.
  • Experience developing branded or sponsored video franchises.
  • Scripting, API or plugin experience - Python, Premiere extensions, that kind of thing.
  • You're comfortable jumping in front of the camera when the idea calls for it.

How to Apply

Send us your resume and a portfolio of work you're proud of. We're especially interested in seeing work that shows range, strong creative thinking, and examples of how you've approached production differently.

Final candidates may be asked to complete a short case study representative of the work involved in the role.
